About the adventure

Two adventurers and their party members went looking for answers beneath a ruined fortress. They never came back. Their family wants them found, and your guild has taken the contract. You've been assigned to the search and rescue squad, with one job: find the missing adventurers and bring them home. Preferably alive. The Sunless Citadel is a short, classic D&D adventure built around exploration, dungeon crawling, tactical combat, strange creatures, hidden secrets, and the time-honored tradition of players finding solutions the DM absolutely did not see coming. You'll start at Level 1 and grow together as a party while you dig into what happened to the missing pair, and discover there's a lot more going on beneath these ruins than anyone told you. This game is built to be fun, memorable, and easy to jump into. It's a great fit for newer players who want a complete D&D adventure without a months-long commitment, and just as good for experienced players who want to roll some dice, crawl a great dungeon, and have a good time. Your characters already have a reason to work together, you're guildmates, and you've got a job. How you handle it is up to you. Fight your way through the Citadel. Talk your way through it instead. Make allies, make enemies, touch the obviously cursed thing. Just don't lose sight of why you're there. Find them. Bring them home. Get paid. How complicated could that possibly get?

About me

I’m Carlos, a retired professional wrestler and lifelong storyteller. I’ve been playing TTRPGs since the late ’90s, though I stepped away for a long stretch while I was in the wrestling business. The funny thing is, pro wrestling and tabletop RPGs aren’t actually that different. Both are about tension, character moments, big risks, emotional payoffs, and creating stories people remember years later. Wrestling was painful storytelling. D&D became the thing that scratched that same creative itch after I retired. Over the last few years, I’ve been running games for groups of fellow wrestlers and close friends, but getting adults together consistently can feel harder than fighting a dragon. So I decided to start hosting games here so I could keep doing what I love most: creating unforgettable experiences for players who want to get immersed in a living world. My games focus heavily on atmosphere, roleplay, cinematic moments, character-driven storytelling, and making players feel like their choices actually matter. I love balancing serious story beats with humor, chaos, and those completely unplanned moments that become inside jokes for the entire campaign. Whether you’re brand new to TTRPGs or a veteran player, my goal is simple: I want you to leave the table excited for the next session and talking about what happened long after the game ends. So grab your dice, bring me a character you care about, and let’s tell a story worth remembering.

Character creation

Creating your character

Before the campaign begins, we'll also schedule a free, individual 30-minute Session Zero with each player. This is your one-on-one chance to build your character, talk through your guild member's background and motivations, ask questions, and make sure you're set up and ready before we head to the Citadel. We'll use Discord, D&D Beyond, and Roll20. Characters begin at Level 1 using 27 Point Buy for ability scores. All official 2024 Dungeons & Dragons classes and species are welcome. If you'd like to use material from another official source or third-party publisher, just ask, I'll consider everything. Your character is yours. My role is to help ensure they have a meaningful place in the story. Maybe you joined the guild for coin, for adventure, or because you needed a purpose and a group of people to belong to. Your character's past, ideals, and motivations may shape the opportunities they encounter, but where their journey leads will be determined by the choices you make. Whether this is your first D&D campaign or you've run plenty of dungeons before, I ask everyone to approach the adventure through their character's eyes. The Sunless Citadel is a story about a guild squad sent to find two missing adventurers, and what they find beneath the ruins instead. Explore, take risks, make friends, make enemies, and get the job done, your way. And remember: two people went into that Citadel and didn't come back. It isn't waiting for you to be careful.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You don't need to be an expert in any of these tools. If it's your first time using Roll20 or D&D Beyond, I'll help you get everything set up before the adventure begins. Before our session zero, please make sure you have the following: A Discord account for voice chat, announcements, and between-session communication. A Roll20 account for maps, combat, and gameplay. A D&D Beyond account for your character sheet. After you join the campaign, I'll send you invitations to the Discord server and Roll20 game. During our free Session 0, we'll finish any remaining setup, answer questions, and make sure everyone is comfortable with the tools before we begin. A stable internet connection, a headset or microphone, and a quiet place to play will help create the best experience for everyone at the table.

What Los brings to the table

My goal is simple: I want you to have fun and leave every session with at least one story you can't wait to tell somebody. The Sunless Citadel is classic D&D. Explore a dangerous ruin, fight monsters, find treasure, meet weird people, make questionable plans, and occasionally watch those questionable plans somehow work. Expect memorable NPCs with personalities and goals of their own, tactical combat that rewards teamwork and creative thinking, ambient music and soundscapes, and dynamic maps and visuals through Roll20. I'll draw on my background in pro wrestling and radio to keep every session feeling like a show, with NPCs who have real presence, pacing that builds tension where it counts, and the kind of energy that turns a good session into a memorable one. I use the rules as written whenever possible because they give everyone a fair and consistent foundation. But D&D is a game of imagination. If somebody says, "I have a terrible idea," I don't want the first question to be whether there's a rule for it. Tell me what you're trying to do, and we'll figure out what happens. There will be serious moments. There will be dangerous fights. Your choices will have consequences, and the Citadel will respond to what you do. But we're not here to take ourselves too seriously. We're here to roll dice, tell a great story, laugh a lot, and create the kind of moments that become inside jokes years later. If we accomplish that, we played D&D right.

Homebrew rules

Homebrew Rules Potions: Drinking a healing potion yourself is a Bonus Action. Administering a potion to another creature requires an Action. Critical Hits: On a Natural 20, players can choose between a reliable critical hit or risk the dice for the chance at even more damage. Rule of Cool: The rules provide the foundation for the game, but clever ideas deserve a chance to shine. If you come up with a creative solution that fits the story and doesn't undermine game balance, I'm willing to reward ingenuity with a fair ruling. Table Contributions: Players who volunteer to help with session recaps, party organization, or other table responsibilities can earn Inspiration or other small in-game benefits. This is completely optional. I'll go over everything during Session 0, so you don't need to memorize any of this before we play.

Safety

How Los creates a safe table

Safety The goal is for everyone at the table to have fun and feel comfortable being part of the story. Lines & Veils: We'll establish any hard limits or subjects we'd rather keep off-screen during Session 0. X, N & O Cards: Players can use these at any time to pause, redirect, or check in on a scene. No explanation is required. Open Door: Real life comes first. If you need to step away from the table for any reason, you can. Aftercare: After particularly intense, emotional, or just plain wild sessions, we'll take a few minutes to decompress, check in, laugh about what happened, and make sure everyone leaves the table feeling good about the game. You never need to justify using a safety tool. We're here to have fun together, and looking out for each other is part of that.
