About the adventure
Welcome to Turtleback Cove, a rough-and-tumble corner of Greyhawk where adventure is never far from the docks. Ancient ruins, dangerous wilderness, strange creatures, desperate townsfolk, and opportunities for fortune and glory await those willing to leave the safety of the tavern behind. Tales of Turtleback Cove is a series of interconnected adventures built around the classic Dungeons & Dragons experience: explore dangerous places, meet memorable characters, uncover mysteries, fight monsters, and make choices that shape what happens next. Each adventure tells a complete story, but your character carries forward from one tale to the next. Allies made, enemies earned, treasures discovered, and decisions made in earlier adventures can follow you throughout the series. The result is a campaign that combines the accessibility and variety of episodic adventures with the continuity and character development of a longer-running story. My games emphasize roleplaying, exploration, creative problem-solving, and tactical combat in roughly equal measure. There is rarely only one “correct” solution: talk your way past a problem, sneak around it, devise something I never anticipated—or draw steel and see what happens. The world reacts to what the characters do, and player choices matter. New players are absolutely welcome, as are experienced players looking for a traditional fantasy campaign with an ongoing cast and plenty of room to develop their characters. You don't need to know Greyhawk lore or memorize the rules. Bring a character who's willing to adventure with the group, a willingness to engage with the world, and a sense of humor when the dice inevitably decide they have other plans.
Meet the Game Master
About me
I started running D&D as a kid in 1984 with a battered boxed set from a rummage sale, my brothers, and a couple of neighbors. I kept playing through the Satanic Panic years (sometimes underground), and I’m still doing what I love—helping the dice tell stories. I’ve played and run a wide range of systems, including D&D, Star Frontiers, and Boot Hill. By day, I’m a high school teacher (History, Geography, Government, and French), and by night I’m a published novelist—so clear communication, strong atmosphere, distinct characters, and meaningful choices are at the center of every game I run. I often say there are two kinds of tables: those that play a game with a story attached, and those that tell a story with a game attached. I run the latter. My style is story-forward and roleplay-focused, with room for tactics, humor, and heroics—but always with character at the center. I aim for tables where everyone shares the spotlight, which is why I cap my games at 4–5 players. My tables are inclusive, respectful, and welcoming. I’m also beginner-friendly. If you’re looking for immersive stories, shared spotlight, and a GM who treats your character as part of the narrative—not just a stat block—I’d love to have you at my table.

Creating your character
Feel free to create a character in D&D Beyond using any of the three standard character creation methods. If you need help creating your character, let me know and I'll be happy to run you through it. Before the first session, I will send you the links you need for Discord and the campaign on D&D Beyond.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I will send out links to the Discord before the first game session. If you don't already have an account on D&D Beyond, go ahead and create one (free accounts are available and offer everything you'll need). We will be using D&D Beyond's MAPS for our Virtual Tabletop.
What Scott brings to the table
My games are character-driven, interactive, and player-focused. I use character voices, mannerisms, and gestures to bring NPCs to life, and I encourage roleplaying without requiring anyone to be an actor. Expect meaningful choices and tactical combat. Enemies behave according to their intelligence and motivations: clever opponents use clever tactics, while a hungry beast probably isn't executing a six-step battle plan. I enjoy rewarding creative solutions, including ways to avoid combat entirely. Defeating an enemy doesn't necessarily mean killing it. I generally play Rules as Written, with room for the Rule of Cool when you've come up with something clever, cinematic, or just plain fun. I'll make a ruling and keep the game moving rather than grind everything to a halt looking for an obscure rule. The rules provide the structure, but they shouldn't get in the way of a great adventure. Most importantly, your choices matter. I provide the world, its characters, and its problems; you decide what to do about them. There isn't a script you're expected to follow, and sometimes the most memorable parts of a game are the ones neither the players nor the GM saw coming.

How Scott creates a safe table
Before our first session, I will send a link to my lines and veils document and give you the opportunity to let me know what subjects matter you are and aren't comfortable with. I also keep an open door policy. If any player is having an issue with anything going on at the table, they may feel free to communicate with me anonymously and I will address problematic behavior.
