About the adventure
You are a retired adventurer who has been called out of retirement for one last job, a heroic quest to save the realm from utter ruin by a monster of legend. A massive, terrible monster called The Tarrasque approaches. It is still hundreds of leagues away from your home, but like a glacier it's slow progress is implacable. Large as a mountain, the monster rumbles sunders the earth far around where it walks, and crushes armies and cities alike where it steps. No artifice of mortals or magic seems able to wound or slow it. No attempts to communicate or negotiate with it have succeeded. It walks, and where it walks, the world falls apart. It has walked in this way for over five years, slowly spanning great distances and throwing an entire continent into turmoil. Your home realm is already indundated with raiders and refugees displaced from their home. The economy has collapsed and society is barely holding itself together. Many people call these the end times. But there is one hope. The Tarrasque has come before. It was vanquished or banished long in the past. The one who did it was a great mage who hailed from your realm, though she died far from home. In her lost, faraway crypt lie the secrets of her spellcasting, the means by which she delivered the land from the Tarrasque. They must be found, unearthed, and used again. And there's nobody better fit for the job.
