Good Morning, Shadowfell!

Good Morning, Shadowfell!

Something has dragged you into the Shadowfell against your will, with nothing but this inane disembodied 1950s weatherman to keep you company.

About the adventure

You had a life. A good one, a bad one, an interesting one. Maybe people loved you. Maybe they hated you. Maybe you had unfinished business, enemies, debts, aspirations, or a suspiciously large number of warrants. But that doesn’t seem to matter much anymore. Because you have woken up in the dark embrace of the Shadowfell with absolutely no recollection of how you got here. You are not alone, at least. There are others nearby, equally confused, equally stranded, and apparently subjected to the same indignity. Each of you has also acquired a tarot card in circumstances ranging from mysterious to deeply undignified—resting neatly on your chest, tucked into a boot, tangled in your hair, stuck to your forehead, or otherwise positioned with the dramatic precision of someone who had entirely too much time to arrange the scene. The cards are different. None of you remember receiving them. And they do not appear interested in leaving. Unfortunately, they are not your only company. Somewhere in the darkness, a cheerful voice crackles to life with all the warmth and enthusiasm of a 1950s morning television host. He has weather reports. He has travel advisories. He has helpful announcements. He has absolutely no intention of explaining who he is, where he is broadcasting from, or why he seems to know significantly more about your situation than you do. So gather your things, check that the tarot card has not moved again, and try not to wander too far into the fog. Today’s forecast calls for oppressive gloom, scattered existential dread, and a slight chance of being erased from recorded history. Good Morning, Shadowfell!

About me

Hi, I'm Amalthyon! You can also call me Ama. I'm a very player focused GM and enjoy relying on character backstory for big plot points and rely heavily on a network of safety tools to ensure everyone is comfortable and having a good time. Roleplay and dynamic combats are my bread and butter. Mystery and intrigue are my go to frameworks for plot, and combats usually have more than one objective. I love creating a safe space out of character that welcomes player characters to engage in emotionally intense scenes and conflicts. Aftercare and frequent check ins are key for providing the comfort and safety needed! I have over a decade of experience GMing dungeons and dragons. I started out with 3.5 when I was a teenager and moved to 5e shortly after it was published. I've been dabbling with the 2024 edition in home games since it was published as well, but 5e is really where I live. I also print and paint fully customizable minis, statuettes, and keepsakes! This is an additional optional feature. Shipping is free, ask me about sizes and pricing!

Character creation

Creating your character

I'll host a free session 0 to include character creation. I like to do character creation together as a party in order to establish bonds between characters that might know each other before the start of the campaign, as well as balance party composition. Players are encouraged to come to session 0 with a couple different character ideas. These should include species/class options, an idea of the vibe or role of the character, and an idea of why you're motivated to work together. Homebrew pitches are allowed with GM discretion. Characters will start at level 5. Stats will be rolled using the 4d6, drop the lowest method, with the option to reroll your lowest stat. You may choose to use standard array or point buy if opposed to rolling. You'll also need a free level 1 feat, one common and one uncommon magic item, and 500+1d10x250 gp. You can use DnD Beyond or Foundry for character creation. I would like to stream this campaign but if ANYONE is uncomfortable doing so, we will play as normal in private so don't let that discourage you from joining.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To prepare, you'll need to have a Discord account for audio and general communications. I will provide a link for the Discord server we will use. You'll also need a computer with decent internet connection as foundry doesn't work the best on mobile and can be kind of chunky for slower speeds. Headphones are preferable for the sake of audio quality/minimizing the echo but as long as you mute when you're not speaking, it's not usually too big of a deal. Webcams are always nice if we want to do a more face to face thing but are not required!

What Amalthyon brings to the table

I pride myself on creating a safe and inclusive environment to ensure the comfort of my players in order to encourage intense roleplay experiences. Balancing high stakes emotional scenes with comedic relief enables this. I enjoy creating unique and interesting NPCs, curating playlists for every occasion, utilizing various maps and handouts, and providing character art for key NPCs. I also print and paint fully customizable minis, statuettes, and keepsakes! This is an additional optional feature. Shipping is free, ask me about sizes and pricing!

Safety

How Amalthyon creates a safe table

Once you sign up for my games, I'll send over a link for my Lines and Veils document as the first line of defense. The data from this document will be compiled and provided to the table anonymously, posted in the game server, and reviewed in session 0. During play, I utilize a safety deck in Foundry. Players can anonymously deal out a "keep going" card to encourage a scene to keep progressing, a "slow down" card to pause and move on from the scene, or a "stop" card to indicate a full stop where we will take a short 10-20 minute break to reset before continuing. Players are always welcome to privately message me if they need to talk or want to adjust the lines and veils/provide feedback on what to avoid in the future. I like to wrap up a session with 15-20 minutes of open space to talk about anything anyone feels they need to talk about. Whether this is idle chatter to come down from the events of the game, talk over something that happened, compliment their fellow players, or anything else that might be on their mind.
