About the adventure

For months, an unnatural winter has trapped Icewind Dale in endless darkness. The people of Ten-Towns are struggling to survive against the cold, dwindling supplies, and the creatures that stalk the wilderness. But something far stranger is happening beneath the snow. Ancient secrets are stirring, and the longer this winter lasts, the more dangerous Icewind Dale becomes. Rime of the Frostmaiden is a long-form adventure of exploration, survival, mystery, and dark fantasy. You'll travel between isolated settlements, brave frozen wilderness, uncover forgotten places, and decide which dangers are worth facing and which are better left buried. Your characters won't simply follow a predetermined path; your choices, relationships, and priorities will shape the story as the campaign unfolds. My style is character-focused, collaborative, and story-driven. I encourage you to bring goals, relationships, and backstories that I can weave into the campaign. Expect plenty of roleplay and exploration alongside tactical combat. Whether you're a veteran adventurer or new to D&D, there's a place for you at the table!

About me

My name is Eric, and I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons for nearly a decade. I first discovered the game around a table with friends, gathering in a hot garage to slay monsters, attempt questionable accents, and embark on unforgettable adventures. Before long, I found myself drawn behind the screen, eager to build worlds and tell stories of my own. Since becoming a Game Master in 2019, I've run weekly campaigns for groups of friends, including a six-year homebrew campaign that reached level 20 and a complete playthrough of Out of the Abyss. I've also run adventures from Curse of Strahd, Call of the Netherdeep, and Rime of the Frostmaiden, along with numerous homebrew one-shots for both veteran and first-time players.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be handled the first time we meet in a free session 0. During session 0 I will reiterate character creation guidelines and happily answer any questions you may have. We will make characters on D&D Beyond. Starting Level: 1 Stats: Point Buy HP: Rolled Milestone Leveling Any core 5.5e classes, subclasses, species, and backgrounds are allowed. Additional expansion subclasses are allowed upon request. I will provide access to this content through our D&D Beyond campaign link.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a D&D Beyond account for creating your character as well as a Discord account for voice and video communication. You will need to join the Discord server. The link will be provided in your prep email. I will get you set up with correct Discord permissions once you have joined the server. No VTT required. All dice rolls will be done over D&D Beyond.

What Eric Weubbe brings to the table

I physically build all of my combat maps from my collection of terrain and live stream them over Discord during combat. I try to pick miniatures to match your characters and your adversaries. I stream ambient music over Discord. This is done through a fully controllable bot that, on your end, you can use to adjust volume or mute entirely. I do attempt character voices, and while I'm no voice actor, I do have fun with it and feel it helps to give players another way to differentiate the NPCs I'm portraying. The "Rule of Cool" and the rules as written don't have to be enemies. I believe the rules provide a fair foundation for everyone at the table, but I'm always willing to reward creative ideas when they make the game more exciting and memorable. I love really getting into character and roleplaying, but I also enjoy the crunchy side of the game and working out mechanical interactions, especially during combat.

Safety

How Eric Weubbe creates a safe table

I will share a link to the campaign's Lines and Veils document prior to session 0 and leave it open for editing throughout the campaign's duration. During session 0, in addition to campaign and character context, we'll go over in-game table etiquette, conflict resolution methods, breaks, and party feelings towards contentious topics such as PvP and romance. We'll also discuss how to signal X, N, & O cards as well as what to expect in terms of aftercare. Typically, I prefer X, N, & O cards to be communicated verbally as it is the quickest way to get my attention. I am happy to make exceptions as needed though. During the session I'll try to build in a break around every ~1.5hrs or so to allow everyone a few minutes away from the table. If at any point during a session real life needs to take precedence, or you're feeling uncomfortable, you are free to leave the table without penalty. After each session, I'll go around the table and ask everyone for stars and wishes as well as open the floor for a post session debrief. You may also message me directly over Discord if there is a concern you'd like to discuss privately.
