About the adventure

In the Empire’s shadow, a band of rogues, renegades, and smugglers has nowhere left to hide in the Core. Branded criminals and fugitives, your crew burns across the Outer Rim, hunted by Imperials, bounty hunters, and old debts. Sanctuary—and fresh trouble—awaits in the Corporate Sector’s ruthless profit mills, the Centrality’s ancient mysteries, and classic fringe worlds: the dusty scum-and-villainy of Tatooine, the gleaming clouds of Bespin, the jungle ruins of Yavin, and the forested wilds of Endor. The Corporate Sector Authority greets you with contracts, Espos troopers, and mega-corp intrigue on worlds like Etti IV. Pay is good for smuggling past CSA blockades or hitting rival vaults—until they sell you out to the Empire. Beyond lies the Centrality: independent, remote, and steeped in early lore. Race the Oseon’s Flamewind, delve Sharu ruins on Rafa for life crystals and pre-Republic artifacts, or tangle with Tund’s sorceries and Hutt schemes while Scrivinirs guard fragile freedom. Your runs pull you to iconic stops. On Tatooine, dodge stormtroopers in Mos Eisley cantinas, outrun Tusken raiders, and cut deals with Jabba’s enforcers or moisture farmers who know too much. Tibanna gas heists and sabacc pots draw you to Bespin’s Cloud City, where charming administrators, wing guards, and Ugnaught workers offer refuge—or betrayal—high above the gas giant. Yavin’s Massassi temples hide ancient Sith secrets, Rebel whispers, and salvage worth killing for amid the gas giant’s moons. On Endor’s forest moon, navigate Ewok tribes, Imperial scout traffic, and dense wilderness perfect for offline repairs, hidden caches, or vanishing completely… if the locals don’t claim your gear first. Obligation drives everything—bounties, rivalries, dark family secrets, or a cargo that could change the war. Smuggle spice and contraband along forgotten routes, infiltrate corporate boardrooms, explore lost ruins, and decide whether to build your own cartel, aid the spark of Rebellion, or just stay ahead of the Star Destroyers. Early Expanded Universe echoes blend with sandbox freedom: corporate intrigue, pulp archaeology, and scoundrel survival. This Star Wars: Edge of the Empire campaign plays on Discord—narrative dice, rich Obligation and Destiny mechanics, play-by-post downtime mixed with voice for heists, chases, and showdowns. Collaborative and player-driven, your choices ripple from Tatooine bazaars to Centrality casinos to Endor’s canopy. Fire up the freighter. The Empire closes in. From desert wastes to cloud cities, temple shadows to forest moons, fortune favors the bold. Will your crew stay free?

About me

I’ve been running games for as long as I can remember, more than thirty years at this point; I make my living as a science-fiction author, have done for a decade, with the occasional dip into fantasy and historical fiction. I’ve a few RPG credits to my name; I was heavily involved in the adaptation of one of my settings, ‘Battlecruiser Alamo’, a few years back, and I’ve done some work in the OSR, running a fanzine called OD&DITIES back in the day. Growing up, I ran an awful lot of D&D, but in recent years I’ve found myself drawn to other games; I’ve run multiple campaigns of Star Trek Adventures over the last three years, and had two Star Wars campaigns going at once at one point. I’ve been a Star Trek fan for longer than I’ve been a gamer, and love to delve deep into the lore to find fun things to anchor games around. Having a bookshelf full of Star Trek novels is a real benefit! I always run a completely inclusive table; I wouldn’t know how to do anything else. My focus in campaigns tends to be on storytelling and character progression, and it’s always immense fun to watch a campaign twist and turn as the sessions progress. I tend heavily towards the Rule of Cool, and prefer narrative systems that allow for player buy-in, just to ensure the wonderful chaos that can ensue. Above all, I believe that the purpose of a campaign is to have a good time, to have fun, and that is my Prime Directive!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will take place prior to the first session, with discussion among the players on the Discord server to ensure that each player has their niche; I will be available to provide support as needed, both on the server and individually.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game, you'll need to join the Discord server and create a character; the GM will happily provide full guidance and support where needed. Ownership of the rulebook is recommended but not required.

What Richard brings to the table

Thirty years of experience as a DM and twelve years as a novelist, a comprehensive collection of rule books and endless knowledge of Star Wars lore. The campaign will be run using Theatre of the Mind, and both I and the system are extremely supportive of the Rule of Cool!

Safety

How Richard creates a safe table

Before play begins, we will discuss the campaign and gameplay style on the Discord Server, as well as at the start of the first session, a break will be taken in the middle of the session with a debrief at the end, and an open door policy will be available. Prior to the first session, I will contact each player individually to discuss any issues that might arise during the campaign. This is meant to be fun for everyone, and all support necessary will be available to make sure that it is.
