About me
Hello I am Wylie. I have been obsessed with roleplaying( or roll whichever one you prefer) for close to 30 years. I started playing at age 18 with a group of theater people, using a dinner theater as our gaming venue. I love role playing, to be a brave adventurer who faces imaginary dangers while collaborating with other players in creating epic stories. Role playing is a wonderful hobby, as it fulfills several intrapersonal psychological needs. It promotes socialization, accountability, problem solving, responsibility, and it encourages empathy and compassion. All game systems do these things to some extent, it doesn't matter what system is used. I have learned a lot and I am still learning from role playing. I have played several different systems over the years, and in a variety of ways. I have played with pen and paper and handful of dice, I have LARPED some, and during/ after the pandemic I have been playing virtually. I am familiar with Foundry, and Roll20. Some of the game systems I have played are DnD ( from 2e to 5.5), White Wolf's World of Darkness( most notably Vampire, Werewolf, and Hunter), Pathfinder,Shadowrun, and Mutants and Masterminds. I have ran several campaigns with group sizes ranging from 3 up to 13. I enjoy watching players and their characters grow and change over the course of a campaign.

Creating your character
Players will start at level 1. Players will create their characters during session zero. Players will be able to choose any of the three accepted methods: rolling for stats, point buy, and standard array. If rolling for stats, the player has 3 attempts to roll and select the set of stats that best fits their character concept. Character sheets will be provided on the VTT platform used for the game. Players will use the character builder built into the character sheet. The character builder will guide players step by step through the creation process. If any player encounters any issue with creating a character, I will assist with resolving the issue. During the character creation/session zero, players will also have an opportunity to utilize art for their character and token. This game will use both the legacy 2014 and the recent 2024 updated rules. Players can refer to and use either or both books for inspiration and clarification of rules. A digital copy of both rule sets will be available to all players. Supplements such as Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Xanathar's Guide to Everything are good resources for this game. Copies of these will also be available. The only thing the players need to bring to session zero is an active imagination and a positive attitude. Everything else will be provided.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
This game will be played on Roll20. Players will need to create a free account to be able to play. Discord is used for voice, so players will need a Discord account. No other preparation is necessary. Players will be invited to both the game listing on Roll20 and the Discord server prior to session zero.
What Wylie Blanc brings to the table
Things that I provide. I like to think of my role as a game master similar to that of a host for a party. I feel it is my responsibility to provide for the needs of my guests (or, in this case, players). I like for everyone to have access to the rules, any supplements, and the tools to have a good time playing a game. Every effort is put into ensuring all players have a smooth and hassle-free experience. The more I can do on my end means less the players have to do, or feel responsible for. My goal is to treat everyone fairly, and to create an environment where everyone can enjoy themselves for a few hours. I like a laid-back atmosphere where laughter and joy are prevalent. During gameplay, I will sometimes attempt a voice (usually badly); I try to mix in combat and non-combat social situations the characters might find themselves in. I appreciate unusual solutions to complex problems, so I encourage players to think creatively, certainly outside the box. The rules as written (RAW) vs. the rule of cool (ROC) What is my stance on this question? The rules are necessary to ensure fair play for everyone at the table (players and game masters alike). The RAW provide a necessary framework from which everything is based and built. Of course, that being said, I also believe that the rules shouldn't hinder or get in the way of the fun or having a good time. I support the ROC as much as RAW. If a rule is encountered that doesn't work within the framework of the game itself, it can be discussed, tweaked, changed, or disregarded. I have no problem pausing the game for clarification of a rule. In some cases, the ROC will override the RAW and vice versa. It is a balance that serves the needs of the game and the table. Anytime a rule is changed, it will be noted so that if it comes up again, it can be used again to promote consistency.

Homebrew rules and options will be considered on a case by case basis. I don't have any homebrew options for this game.

How Wylie Blanc creates a safe table
Creating a fun, welcoming, and respectful table is my highest priority. Every campaign begins with a Session Zero, where we'll discuss expectations, establish table etiquette, create characters, and use Monte Cook's RPG Consent Checklist along with Lines and Veils to identify topics players wish to avoid or fade into the background. These tools help ensure everyone can enjoy the adventure while feeling comfortable with the themes explored during play. I also maintain an Open Door policy, meaning you are always free to step away from the game for any reason—whether you need a break, have an emergency, or simply need a moment to yourself—without judgment or pressure. During each session, we'll take regular Breaks to rest, recharge, and check in with one another. Players are encouraged to use X, N, and O Cards at any time: the X Card immediately removes or skips content that has become uncomfortable, the N Card lets me know we're approaching a player's limit and should change direction, and the O Card communicates that everything is going well and players are happy to continue. At the end of each game, we'll wrap up with a brief Debriefing and Stars and Wishes, giving everyone an opportunity to celebrate memorable moments, provide constructive feedback, and share what they'd like to see in future sessions. These safety tools aren't just formalities—they're an active part of creating a table where every player feels heard, respected, and excited to return for the next adventure.
