About the adventure

The year is 2385. Your Starfleet vessel has recently been recommissioned and assigned to Frontier Sector 12, a remote region beyond Cardassian space where the Federation's presence has been limited for years. Your mission is broad: explore, reconnect with isolated colonies, provide assistance, investigate threats, and reestablish Starfleet's presence on the frontier. The campaign begins as frontier Star Trek. You'll encounter struggling colonies, independent settlements, smugglers, pirates, unexplored systems, political disputes, strange phenomena, and people who have gotten used to solving their problems without Starfleet. Over time, however, you will discover that something much larger is happening in Sector 12. Characters will begin in Starfleet Academy and soon receive expedited post on a storied vessel from the Dominion War. The ship has been pulled out of mothballs to alleviate demand for patrols in far flung colonial sectors neglected after the War. Her mission is not just to bring Starfleet's presence back to the Frontier, but to justify her continued existence in Starfleet. The vessel serves as the backdrop for an unfolding mystery that threatens the Federation with a strange variation on an old adversary. The Players will be at the forefront of re-establishing civilization in a lawless sector.

About me

I am a veteran of 30 years of Table Top Roleplaying, Live Roleplaying, and Online play. I have recently stepped away from LARP, to focus on online gaming with friends. I am passionate about roleplay as an expression of storytelling and am seeking collaborative work with kindred spirits.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will be guided through Session Zero; Players will create an Academy Cadet, and through roleplay build their character up to graduate at the end of Session Zero. We will be modifying the Lifepath system to handle the steps during the Academy, and allow for a brand new Ensign to begin their post at Session One. The supporting cast will be the senior officers and will be played by the players when called for.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I use Discord for Voice and Dice. Owlbear.Rodeo for VTT maps. Otherwise you need a mic and a computer.

What David brings to the table

I run a character-driven game where player choices matter and the world responds to what you do. Expect plenty of opportunities for roleplay, investigation, exploration, and creative problem-solving alongside meaningful combat. NPCs have their own personalities and motivations, decisions can have lasting consequences, and I’m happy to follow the party when you pursue an unexpected idea rather than forcing everyone back onto a predetermined path. Combat is challenging without being designed simply to kill characters. Enemies behave according to their intelligence and circumstances, terrain and objectives matter, and sometimes winning means something other than reducing every opponent to zero hit points. I generally follow the rules, but I’m comfortable with the Rule of Cool when a player has a clever idea that fits the situation and makes the game better. Most importantly, I want players to have room to make their characters their own. Character backgrounds, relationships, ambitions, flaws, and choices will become part of the campaign itself. During character creation, engage with the other players and the world around you, and we’ll discover together where their story goes.

Homebrew rules

We will be modifying the character creation rules to encompass Academy training. Game technically will begin during Academy, with the character's service beginning as a new Ensign's on their first ship.

Safety

How David creates a safe table

My tables use X/N/O's in Chat. I use the Luxton Technique - Group discussion of trauma triggers in Session Zero to establish comfort level and boundaries for the table. This discussion helps to inform our Lines and Veils.
