About the adventure

Welcome to Anime5e! Taking the system of D&D 5e, and adding new species, abilities, and even defects to customize any character that you want! This campaign is for players new to Anime5e, where the 1st and 2nd levels will be a tutorial of us going through the character creation system and figuring how your characters will work. What makes Anime5e different then regular D&D5e is its express purpose to allow the player to fulfill their anime-inspired fantasies. Where you can play as an isekai-student, coming from a different planet and having powers that make you luckier than most. You can play as monster tamer, collecting creatures and using them in battle as if they're your very own pokemon/palmon/other kind of mon. Here, you're able to defy gravity by either flying with wings, using anti-gravity magic, or using fire to propel you. This is all through an effect system that lets you decide how your character can do what they do (I.E. You use anti-gravity magic to explain why you can fly). And that truly is the core of Anime5E, letting you play out the fantasy you wish your character to have. For the setting, I run a homebrew world called Brinas, where a goddess grants deific powers to mortals as a way to contend with the chaotic creatures that are rampaging throughout, tearing the planet asunder. You can either be the heroes, or vigilantes, helping towns rid itself of these damned creatures. Or you can play as villains, joining the side of the mad and chaotic primordials who wished to have this world's essence for themselves!

About me

A New-York based storyteller and narrative designer, my game writing skills hone in on environmental storytelling, lore, and worldbuilding. My love for D&D and mythology has led me to creating immersive and fleshed out worlds with stories waiting to be told. After receiving my bachelor of the arts, focus on narrative design, my efforts have gone towards working on games with colleagues, as well as contracts with indie devs who want to create an in-depth world for their game. In 2017, a friend of mines brought her 5th edition player's manual to guide my process into making my first character. I ended up with a Tiefling Warlock named Thüg (pronounced th-oo-g) who made a pact with an infernal devil in order to save the souls of his friends. 6 souls flew in Thüg's body, and would switch to one of their personalities whenever he loses consciousness. His goal was to find a way to create new bodies for his friends, and to transfer their souls out of his body. Long story short, I had a chaotic mess of a time playing this guy and his 6 other personalities. And even though I didn't get to finish his story, I would later go on to create a world that made sense for him. That experience made me realize that I like having multiple plates spinning at the same time. I wasn't satisfied with just controlling one PC, when I could be a slew of NPCs, monsters, and even the background music that plays while PCs are talking in a tavern. As a GM, I'm Thüg and his 7 personalities.

Character creation

Creating your character

As fun as Anime5E is, it builds upon the mechanics of D&D 5E. So we have to have a good grasp of D&D gameplay before we play in Anime 5E. I run beginner D&D 5E games, so you can very much play that first, then go ahead and join this Anime5E game. For the first session, we will have an in-depth discussion on the differences between D&D 5E and Anime 5E. If players haven't played D&D5E, we will first make your characters on D&D Beyond, then have a session one based in D&D 5E. We will transition to Anime 5E once players have a good grasp on the mechanics.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will join chat on Discord. Once you are a part of this campaign, I will provide a Discord link to my channel, where I'll provide you with a role for this campaing. I run a lot of my games on the D&D Beyond VTT, which we would primarily use for running combat and giving visuals. I'll provide a link to the campaign, where you won't need to make your character, but will make sure you can join in the VTT. Later on, I'll provide a link to join an Anime5E character creation program that is currently being developed. Use this to better coordinate your character creation.

What Anthony brings to the table

I'm big on descriptive dm'ing, where the players actions have weight and narrative significance. When you're in combat and you used a longsword to pierce the foe, that wound is gonna stay on them till they are dead. Rule of cool is the motto in which I follow. As long as you can give me a conceivable way that that would work! Awarding players for their creative, I try my best "Yes and" to work with the ideas that players offer. When it comes to atmosphere, I have playlists of music to fit the different situations that may arise. I started Dm'ing online first, and I knew that I needed to immerse players in ways that only online can. Playlists and online interactive maps were the answers I found for this experience.
