About the adventure

Xarwin Manor. Rumored to be one of the most haunted locations on this side of the continent, this mansion has stood abandoned for nearly 60 years. As the story goes lightning struck the observatory on top of the mansion on a heavy storming night, and shortly after a monstrous roar rang out over the countryside. After that things changed, the people changed. They grew selfish. They grew violent. They went mad. Those who survived quickly fled the area calling the land cursed. Ever since its laid quiet, the only people daring to set foot in the area being thrill seekers and treasure hunters. Most don't return. Nowadays the new Confederacy of Ravounel looks toward its abandoned corners and wonders what lays there. The abandoned settlement of Crooked Cove would make for a great port town, if not for that haunted mansion overlooking it. Thats why you were hired, to find what still hides in that house and, if needed, dispatch of it. Maybe you also wish to uncover what secrets lie buried in that mansion, maybe you've been drawn by other forces to join this expedition, or maybe you're a skeptic who's just in it for a paycheck. You've been sent ahead of a wave of settlers to make the area safe to repair and reestablish a trade hub, for the good of the Confederacy. You've been given a month. Time to get to work. Malevolence is an official Pathfinder 2nd Edition adventure set in the world of Golarion. Explore a haunted house filled with horrors and discover the evils that lie within. Fight monsters, reason with spirits and piece together what happened to its previous inhabitants. Reconstruct the past to influence the future. Face the Malevolence.

About me

Hello, I'm Snail! I'm 28, been playing DnD for about 9 years and Pathfinder for the last 3, and recently I've been working as a GM for Kobold Press during conventions such as GenCon. I like stories with tight narratives and personal stakes, and if you're willing to play with a slightly disorganized GM flying by the seat of their pants then look no further!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters should be created before session 0/1 Starting at Level 3 20gp for equipment and items Uncommon ancestries, feats and spells allowed, ask for rare Backstories will be appreciated, but know that this is a short campaign that takes place in a single location so they may not come into play much. Still, one will be good to have for character moments and RP. As for motivation, you have all been hired by the Confederacy of Ravounel to investigate the abandoned port town of Crooked Cove and render it safe for settlers, including the famously rumored haunted Xarwin Manor. Highly recommend using 'pathbuilder2e.com' for character sheets. When finished you can send me the JSON for your sheet and I'll import it into Foundry.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Games will be held on Discord and Foundry VTT. You will need a Discord account and a decent microphone, you will not need a webcam. You will not need anything for Foundry except for the server link which I will provide. I'll send a link to the Discord server once we have determined players.

What Sea brings to the table

I'll have ambience and music prepared, as well as official art and maps for players to move through. This game is horror based so combats may be difficult in order to really ratchet up the fear factor. Killing everything may not be the best course of action, I'm flexible and the environment is dense so pitch me an idea and I'll try to make it work. I'm going to be making an immersive atmosphere, one you can get lost in as you explore an old abandoned manor and uncover its horrors and secrets. At its core the module is something of a dungeon crawl, but its haunted house flavor is something I'm going to lean into. RP will still be prevalent, there's more then just mindless monsters roaming these halls.

Homebrew rules

Only homebrew I have is hero points do not expire at the end of session. If you want to hoard them you may do so, still only a maximum of 3.

Safety

How Sea creates a safe table

I strongly recommend checking out the content warnings, this is a horror themed game and while some accommodations can be made anything listed there I likely will not be able to change without significant rewrites to the module. I will be using the Monte Cook RPG consent list, after collecting everyone's responses I'll compile them anonymously and post them for all of us to refer to over the course of the game. I will be using a Foundry Module for X, N and O's, so during the game you can press a button and the card will flash for all players. After that I'd like a private discussion in DMs to clarify the triggering content, after which we'll figure out if we want to retcon, skip ahead or fade to black. We'll have a break halfway through the session, and after session I'll stick around a bit to talk and wind down with ya'll. If for any reason you need to leave mid session that is fine, if you end up missing a majority of session I can set up a refund as well.
