About the adventure

In this Level 1-5, sandbox-style homebrew campaign, you and your fellow adventurers are residents of a tropical region known as Lhorisia, a vast chain of islands surrounded by the ocean. You've all come from different walks of life, but one thing unites you: you've all heard stories of lost ancient secrets in Lhorisia since childhood, and it just so happens an old wizard on the Island of Sesi has put out a calling for young, spry adventurers to help uncover some of these secrets! The theme of the campaign is High Seas/Pirate, with an even mix of roleplay, exploration, and combat. Think a combination of Pirates of the Caribbean meets Zelda: The Wind Waker. This game is intended for both new and experienced players.

About me

Hello! I'm Ross, a stage/voice actor, board game designer, and a veteran Game Master of D&D 5e for over a decade! I have run many campaigns in my 10+ years as a GM, specializing in homebrew. I love world building, developing rich NPCs and monsters, and crafting my own homebrew items & systems. My games allow players to dig deep into the world and story, as well as delve through dungeons of varying complexity. I am also a proponent of thinking outside the box and finding unique ways to solve problems, while still honoring the spirit of the rulesets. I am open to players of all skill levels, whether you're a seasoned vet or a new player. I love running games centered around medieval high fantasy with sprinklings of other genres! If you love game series like The Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, and/or Elder Scrolls, you've come to the right place!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be built during a session zero session over one-on-one voice chat, where we can discuss what kind of character you want to make, and how they can fit into the world. Characters will start at Level 1, using either the 2014 or 2024 character building rules (If you choose the 2014 rules, you also get a free feat at level 1). Stats will be rolled during Session 0. All official Classes, Species, and Spell options from the official books are allowed - any 3rd party or homebrew content must be approved by me.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- A Roll20 Account (VTT/Interactive Maps) - A Discord Account (Voice/Video Chat and other Communication) - A Character Sheet (Feel free to use any source you prefer, be it digital or pen & paper) - A microphone of decent quality or better - Webcam (optional)

What Ross David Christian brings to the table

- Decades of Experience As an Actor - My acting skills will bring a plethora of NPCs with unique voices to life for you to interact with, along with a rich original world. - An Experienced D&D 5e GM - Having run the game for over a decade, I know the rules quite well. But, I'm always flexible for creativity and rule of cool if it suits the story! - An Original World - The campaign is set in my own Homebrew world of Omira - with original maps, stories, and encounters. Lore and attitude towards various species differs from place to place. I utilize the Greek Pantheon as the Primary Deities of the world. - Musical Moods - I love to incorporate music in my games, and will provide curated pieces of music throughout to set the tone of each scene and encounter. - Enriching Combat - Expect combat to be fairly tactical - the monsters want to win, too! - Discord Server - You also will have a dedicated Discord server for any discussion, questions, handouts, and more!

Homebrew rules

- Potions: Drinking a Potion is a Bonus Action. - Brutal Criticals: Add max dice damage to your rolls for Critical Hits. - Flanking: allies on either side of an enemy gain advantage on their attacks. - Morale System: Monsters operate on a morale system, and won't always fight to the death. - Push Your Limits: PCs can take points of exhaustion to cast spells or perform effects if they run out of spell slots, ki/focus points, or similar.

Safety

How Ross David Christian creates a safe table

I utilize a "Red Light, Yellow Light" system. For the context of StartPlaying, Red Light = X, and Yellow Light = N. Players can utilize this any time either over voice or text by saying Yellow Light or Red Light. Yellow Light topics will be wrapped up in-game, Red Light topics will be retconned or removed entirely. Safety lists containing topics that fall under either of these two categories will be kept in a list on the discord, and can be added to or edited at any time.
