About the adventure

The campaign is a linked series of investigations set in Sandheart, a hamlet in Sun County in Prax. Your characters are the hamlets militia. Daily life is dull until one day a flock of condors attracts you to the corpses of pack animals carrying illegal drugs! Faced with a real crime to solve, your story begins. Sun County is notoriously xenophobic, and repressive so misfits, oddballs and non-conformists who rail against the system tend to be side-lined for advancement and wash up in places like Sandheart. People like your characters... The place is Glorantha, a bronze age world of myth and magic. It is rich in lore but easy to get into - if you like Greek mythology, you'll get it. Myth and magic infuses everything. Everyone uses magic. Everything is magical. RuneQuest is a long running RPG that uses the Basic Roleplaying System (roll low numbers on d100). Combat is fast and deadly. I run this on Foundry which automates nearly all the mechanics so you don't need to know the system to play (although it helps).

About me

I have been playing TTRPGs since 1983, and running them almost as long. I have a lot of experience running campaigns, one-shots and convention games, in many systems, including but by no means limited to RuneQuest, Ars Magica, Traveller, D&D, Cyberpunk, In A Wicked Age, Primetime Adventures, and World of Darkness. I like games with immersive worlds that feel believable - albeit unlike the one we live in. I aim to give players agency to explore the world in their own way, with consequences that are interesting and fun. I like to provide a path that players can follow, but always with room to head off in different directions and explore the sandbox. The gaming table should always be a happy fun place for the players, although not necessarily for the characters. I do my utmost to ensure that it's inclusive and a safe space for everyone.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created in Session 0, as a group. You can do any character prep except rolling dice ahead of time and send me the details for review. The campaign is set in 1615 (10 years before the standard RQG starting date, using different tables for your characters history so that has to be done at the table. All cults in the RQG core book and Gods of RuneQuest supplements are available for PCs

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need a desktop or laptop computer with a stable internet connection and a working microphone. Voice chat and the majority of text messages will be done through a Discord server, I will provide the invitation link to the server when you join the game. Gameplay is on my Foundry server (you access it from a browser). I will provide you with a URL and login info when you join the game. Knowledge of the rules and setting is nice but not necessary.

What Axel Johnston brings to the table

I will provide an exciting adventure, with fleshed out NPCs, in an interesting, well developed world. I interpret the rules for Maximum Game Fun, and am always willing to let players take the game in interesting and new directions.

Safety

How Axel Johnston creates a safe table

In Session 0 we will establish any boundarys that players want, and check in at the start of each session for any changes. I use digital X Card in Foundry VTT. As a note - classism, sexism, and xenophobia are traits of bad guys in the story. These are indicators that they are people to be fought one way or another.
