About the adventure

Set in a world of high fantasy, A Story of Us is a game using Fabula Ultima to replicate the feel of classic JRPGs like Final Fantasy (especially 6), Chrono Trigger, and Dragon Quest. When an annual festival becomes a scene of terror, heroes will rise to protect the innocent - and to save the world from a mad storyteller who wants to command reality with the stroke of a pen! Their quest will see them exploring a world that the players will help create, facing enemies and discovering things about themselves they never expected. All for the sake of making sure everyone gets to write their own story.

About me

Mostly GMing for the last 30 years, I've had more ideas than I could ever get to the table. Hopefully, this will be a chance to get a few of them out of my head! I tend towards story-focused games that incorporate player input and plot threads, ranging from comedic tones to horrific ones. A student of myth, history, and true crime, I try to layer in some of the complexities that show up more in reality than in most published games - the forces of good and evil trend more towards the gray spaces in between, even the worst villains may have the best of motivations, and people are shaped by their pasts as much as their place in the story. I find it's a mindset that helps give a bit more depth to the world, and makes things feel a little more epic when done right.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place during session zero, so that players can bounce ideas off of each other and try to make a more vibrant world connected to their characters. All published rules for Fabula Ultima will be available, and playtest material on specific consideration. The campaign should run from level 5 to level 50.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a speaker and microphone for Discord voice chat, preferably a full headset. The ability to use Foundry will also be necessary. Familiarity with Fabula Ultima will be helpful, but I intend for this game to be open to beginners as well as more experienced players.

What Jason Leisemann brings to the table

I will be building a space in Foundry that contains all the needed character sheets and tools, as well as making PDFs of the rule books available if needed. I work to provide sessions where everyone can be comfortable, have fun, and help to tell a story that can be as light or dark as the players want it to become. In this particular case, I also bring decades of experience with JRPG storytelling and tropes, and bringing that feel to TTRPGs.

Safety

How Jason Leisemann creates a safe table

At Session Zero, lines and veils will be discussed and stored in a Google Doc for future reference and editing as necessary. X cards and similar tools are usable through Foundry, and Rule Zero is that player comfort is paramount - if we're going to have fun, we can't do it by making each other feel uncomfortable at the table.
