About the adventure
Godscar is a campaign built for players who want the freedom to create, explore, and shape a world of their own. Whether you're an experienced Dungeon Master finally getting the chance to play, a longtime D&D veteran looking for something beyond the usual modules, or someone completely new to the game with a unique character concept you've been dying to bring to life, This campaign gives you the freedom to explore those ideas to their fullest. This campaign embraces homebrew, creativity, and player-driven storytelling. Bring the character you've always wanted to play, experiment with unconventional ideas, or simply step into D&D for the first time and discover what kind of adventurer you want to become. There is no single “right” way to play here. Home to eleven major regions, countless nations, and vast stretches of unexplored and uninhabited land, Godscar is a world built to offer something for every kind of player. Each region has its own nations, conflicts, cultures, religious ties, natural and magical phenomena, and memorable characters—creating a world filled with opportunities for adventure, regardless of where your journey begins. And in a world this large, there is always something waiting to be shaped. As a player in this campaign, your actions can leave a permanent mark on Godscar for future campaigns. The choices you make can influence nations, reshape regions, create new conflicts, and alter the future of the world. Major events and decisions can become part of Godscar's established history, creating a living timeline that continues to evolve alongside the campaign and beyond. Your character isn't simply passing through someone else's story. You have the opportunity to help write what comes next.

About me
I always liked Dungeons & Dragons, but I never thought I'd fall in love—until I stepped behind the screen. Once I discovered Dungeon Mastering, everything clicked. What started as a single year-long campaign quickly became an obsession with crafting worlds, stories, and systems that revolve around one thing: the players and their characters. Today, everything I run is homebrewed with intention. I design settings, mechanics, and narratives to feel hand-crafted around the party, not dropped into a generic mold. My favorite moments come from watching players shape the world alongside me—giving it history, consequences, and life far beyond what I could build alone. While I’m most at home in fantasy, I love twisting expectations. My longest-running campaign took place in an enchanted candy factory, complete with living gummy bears, gingerbread folk, and strange sugary horrors—and yes, it reached level 25 (fun, but I agree… maybe don’t go past 20 😅). I enjoy bending and reworking rules when it serves the story or creates more engaging, cinematic scenarios at the table. After five years as a forever DM, I’ve amassed thousands of notes and pages of original content: custom items, races, subclasses, and even full classes. These aren’t just ideas sitting in a folder—they’re tools meant to be played, tested, and brought to life by curious, creative players. Now, I’m looking to share these worlds with people beyond my IRL group—players who want to collaborate, explore strange settings, and tell stories that feel personal, weird, heroic, and unforgettable. If you’re excited by character-driven storytelling, imaginative worlds, and a DM who genuinely cares about crafting a game with you, I’d love to build something together.

Creating your character
Character creation happens during a private Discord Session 0, where we’ll build your character together, answer questions, and find the parts of the world that excite you. Stats are rolled through Avrae in Discord for transparency. Races and subclasses are generally open to anything with a fair, approved ruleset. Classes are limited to official classes and the GODSCAR custom content, though I’m happy to review outside options. Creativity is encouraged! Official rules and Unearthed Arcana are fair game, and weird character concepts are welcome. Homebrew must fit the setting and remain fair to the table, and may be adjusted through playtesting. Finally, this is a purely custom world, separate from official D&D settings. Familiar gods, patrons, villains, etc. may not exist—but if you have something you want included, we can adapt it to the lore.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a Discord and Roll20 account to participate. Tabletop Simulator is preferred, but not required. If everyone has it, we'll play on Tabletop Simulator; otherwise, sessions will take place on Roll20. After signing up through StartPlaying, I'll send you an invite to the Discord server. Before joining the campaign, we'll have a one-on-one Session 0 to develop your character. Already have a character? Great! Still figuring things out? No problem. Bring a few ideas, or reach out if you need more time. I'm happy to help you build and refine your character, and I'll be available during the evenings and nights for questions or guidance.
What Joe brings to the table
8+ Years of D&D 5e Experience Experienced GM with a strong grasp of the core rules, while still verifying rulings when needed. I focus on fun, memorable experiences where players have opportunities to shine. Distinctiveness & Creativity Custom classes, races, items, mechanics, and rules are welcome and often woven into the world. I encourage inspiration from other games, worlds, and media, and embrace the “rule of cool” when it doesn't negatively impact the campaign or other players. Roleplay & Immersion Distinct character voices, atmospheric music, and encounters tailored to their location, mood, and story help bring the world to life. Combat & Encounters Encounters range from straightforward to highly complex, with multiple possible solutions. Boss fights are designed to be challenging, memorable, and rewarding, while meaningful choices and alternatives help prevent combat from becoming a simple numbers game. Character death is possible, but unnecessary TPKs are off the table. Player Experience Player agency, creativity, and memorable moments come first. I love seeing players find unexpected solutions and will gladly retcon genuine misunderstandings or story issues when appropriate.
Homebrew rules
Every encounter is specially crafted for the environment and/or story. Small changes include: free item interactions to use items like potions, flanking gives advantage, spell components not being too serious (except for the expensive ones). I have world specific custom content to be play tested and I often include it with NPC's, inside encounters etc... My biggest change that I am fond of is wounds instead of falling unconscious. Balancing the difficulty of some homebrew content, falling to 0 does not take you out of the combat. Instead, it gives you a chance to gamble your long-term health in trade to continue fighting alongside your allies. In addition, each of my campaigns adds a bound mechanic to build upon yourself to assist in the power-scaling of the campaign.

How Joe creates a safe table
Before the campaign, I do a free session 0 to go over your character, and this time will be utilized to cover any topics you find uncomfortable. During the sessions, I encourage speaking up about anything that does not make you comfortable and give you time such as a break during the session to unwind. After the sessions I stay to chat and review the session and the campaign as a whole. I am no stranger to constructive criticism and always enjoy hearing aspects my players hope to see within the campaign. I also do not tolerate players who do not respect the wants and needs of other players as D&D is a team game at its core. If someone does not respect these systems, they will at least get a warning, but I am not afraid of removing players from the campaign.
