About the adventure
If you love Planescape: Torment, or you just know it was an excellent CRPG from a bygone age that you regret never checking out... then this game is for you! Turn of Fortune's Wheel takes one of the core idiosyncrasies from that game and expands it into a full adventure for multiple player characters. Players will begin with 3rd level characters, but (no spoilers) things will get a lot more interesting after that. Players should come with multiple character concepts and classes they want to try and be comfortable running those. Combat will be exciting and challenging, and there will be high narrative stakes. Most important of all, that all this will occur amid the full singular flavor and weirdness of the Planescape campaign setting. I intend to stay true to that, so no player ever feels like they're playing some generic high fantasy.

About me
Hello! I have been running TTRPGs for almost 25 years, starting with AD&D but moving quickly to 3rd edition DnD, continuing to Pathfinder, and on to 5th edition, trying out a number of other systems in-between. My most recent obsession is Draw Steel and am looking forward to adapting some classic adventures to it. My first official campaign setting was Dark Sun (because those were the books I was able to get from my older brother), but my favorite has always been Planescape. More than anything, I love homebrew and have designed many worlds -- most of which I've since forgotten. I've evolved quite a bit in two decades, and now focus on content that my players are actually going to see and interact with, including complex NPCs, well-conceived plots, and narrative consequences of player actions. Nothing makes me happier than when my players surprise me, taking a scenario I've conceived and flipping it on its head or interpreting it in some way I'd never considered. For my style, my favorite thing about TTRPGs is running difficult (often deadly), exciting combat that challenges my players, but even with that, I have to balance it with RP and a proper story, collaborating with my players, or I feel the TTRPG experience is undercooked. I want everyone at the table to have fun, and I take my job as gamemaster very seriously. Not about TTRPGs: I love my wife, my kids, and all of our pets.

Creating your character
Turn of Fortune's Wheel begins at 3rd level. I will convert the adventure from classic 5th edition to the new 2024 rules. Players will create characters together during session zero, after talking through potential character concepts during introductory 1:1s with me. We will use the default point array for ability scores.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Have Discord, D&D Beyond, and Roll20 accounts. Make sure you have a functional webcam. I will create and send the Discord server information once we have enough players for the game.
What Adam brings to the table
Turn of Fortune's Wheel has a somewhat unique premise that I won't spoil in advance of the game. I intend to use that mechanic to up the difficulty of the combat to ensure it's both challenging and rewarding. I intend for this to be a high roleplay game, and I tend to voices for the most important characters (though I fully admit I'm not master of accents). As much as I enjoy running challenging combat, I love giving players a chance to express their characters and discover who they are, making sure there are narrative stakes, in addition to the practical ones.
Homebrew rules
All of my games have a little bit of homebrew, but it's usually for monster mechanics. I like to give out a lot of homebrew magic items, and when I sense two players have a synergy, I will often come up with special bonuses or abilities they can trigger together to make battle more exciting.

How Adam creates a safe table
The most important thing for safety is level-setting at session zero. I will also do one-on-ones with each player ahead of the game to make sure everyone is comfortable and compatible with the game and each other. We will establish all relevant safety tools that we will be using and make sure everyone is on the same page.
