About the adventure

Welcome to Philly! The City of Brotherly Love! What a crock of crap. You and your friends, your fellow Thin-Bloods, came to this city thinking it would be better. Hoping for a chance to catch your breath (if your lungs could work again) and find a place to call your own. Maybe Philly would be different. In Breaking Philly, you and your friends take on the roles of Thin-Bloods seeking refuge in the City of Brotherly Love. You've just been smuggled into the city along the Underground Railroad, hoping that here would be opportunities and a chance to poke your head up. Now you all share the same apartment, working together at the local O'Tolleys, trying to stay alive and get ahead. But with money being tight, danger at every turn, and rent coming due... what else can a Thin-Blood do, but cook? Taking place during the events of Blue Bloods of Philly and It's Never Sunny in Philadelphia, Breaking Philly shows us the Thin-Blood side of kindred equation. Survive in these mean streets, and who knows how far you can go? This is intended as a Thin-Blood only chronicle - one of crime, corruption, and the hijinks a group will get in to in order to stay alive. New to Vampire and interested in the World of Darkness? This chronicle serves as a jumping point - one that gives you a glimpse of kindred society from the outside, and who knows? Maybe one day, you'll get to take power for yourself.

About me

A humble player of rpgs who has been behind and in front of the screen consistently for over two decades, I am a lover of all editions of D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowrun and WoD. Experience in running 3.5, 4th and 5th edition D&D, Shadowrun, various WoD and CoD campaigns and games both independent and obscure. My games run from simple, heartfelt adventures to deep social dramas and good old-fashioned dungeon diving!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will gather for a Session Zero and build our characters from there. I will have a copy of the core rulebook, as well as a character sheet which will link to our Discord and the dice bot. During Session Zero, we will also be discussing Lines and Veils, as well as expectations. For the purposes of the story, players are limited to playing Thin-Bloods.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have access to the internet and accounts on Discord.

What Chris brings to the table

In terms of materials, I will provide the core rulebook, character sheets, and a dice bot for us to use in our excursions. As for myself, I bring twenty years of Storytelling and Game Mastering experience to the table. My focus as a Storyteller is to serve as your guide: to set the stage and lead you down the rabbit holes. The style I have honed is very player-forward: you are the ones commanding the action. There will be times when I ask how your character is feeling: to play Devil's Advocate and explore the thoughts and emotions behind your character's decisions and the anticipation they feel in the moment of the hunt. In terms of the setting, I have experience running a Chronicle in Philadelphia, as well as personal experience as I am from the Tri-State Area. I am a big believer in the Rule of Cool: if there is something you want to attempt, and it sounds awesome (and plausible) enough, there is a very good chance that you can roll for it. And how those dice land, is how we play it out. My games are LGBTQIA+ friendly, and I foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone should feel free to be themselves.

Homebrew rules

The only homebrew rule I employ is Achievements: If you do something awesome once per session, you will gain an extra Experience Point in the form of an Achievement declaring your job well done. Achievements are awarded through the completion of a task, making a particularly difficult roll, throwing your character out there, or doing something that just brings a smile to my face.

Safety

How Chris creates a safe table

Players will be provided a link to a Lines and Veils pdf, which is to be filled out and submitted prior to Session Zero. During Session Zero, the players and I will go over their established Lines and Veils, as well as discuss other subjects which may be taboo which weren't present on the sheet or were thought of later. During our sessions, we will take a break halfway through so that I may touch base with the players and make sure they are still comfortable and having fun. Whenever there is a heavy scene or someone asks for a scene to stop, we will also employ these breaks to make sure everyone is okay. Each session will also end with a brief discussion on what the players liked, how they feel the game is going, and any concerns they would like to address. My DMs will also be open for players to discuss their concerns in confidence. Over the course of play, players will be asked to submit their X, N and O's to me through DM to maintain their confidentiality.
