About the adventure

ALIEN: REBORN is a homebrewed cinematic scenario using the Alien TTRPG system. Jump into the boots of the Junker crew of the USCSS Lustrum, as they are confronted with a deeper mystery than they would have expected to stumble upon. A Horror & Tension driven adventure that takes us from the cold vaccum of space travel to a harsh unrelenting atmosphere of LV-928. This adventure is inspired by the atmospheric horror of Alien (1979) & the tense action of The Thing (1982) with modern elements following the Alien Franchise & the Draconis Strain series. This is a game about survival, tension and difficult choices, as players we're doing the equivalent of playing 'Until Dawn', sometimes the poor consequences on your actions are part of the story, we are creating and playing out a horror movie via the medium of game. The aim is to survive, but sometimes the worst case scenario may be what's the most entertaining. The story is designed to be played as a self-contained cinematic scenario, with meaningful character relationships, hidden agendas, escalating danger and the possibility that not everyone will make it out alive.

About me

What's good, I'm Sean. I dabbled with Roleplaying Games for a while, but truly got stuck in as a player in 2020. Along these adventures, I've had multiple opportunities to play a variety of games and learn a few different systems. My group & I from 2020 mainly played 5e, I've ran in person sessions of 'Dread' with some friends as well from 2022 & since 2023, I branched out to the Zero Year Enginer with Alien TTRPG & more recently looking at the Invincible TTRPG.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation is a collaborative part of the experience. Ideally, we will begin with a Session 0 where we work together to build the crew before the main scenario begins. I am also happy to work together on character in private and then bring them to the table to 'introduce'. Players will start by creating a character based on their own vision; personality types, physical aesthetic and then build in the little nuances & backstory. From there, the next part is who they are to the crew, how they're seen, who they like and how they feel. Each character will also have a distinct personal Agenda. These Agendas aren't secret objectives. They will help guide the narrative and create difficult choices as the situation aboard the ship begins to unravel. The aim is for the crew to feel like a group of real people with history, rather than a collection of player characters who happened to meet at the beginning of the adventure. Your character's relationships, motivations and decisions will influence the story and the unfolding events may force you to choose between survival, loyalty and your own Agenda. I'll guide players through the ALIEN RPG character creation process and help translate their ideas into characters that fit the setting and scenario. No previous experience with the system is required.

The current party

The Players will take on the mantle of the Crew of the USCSS Lustrum, The Lustrum is a Bison M-Class Star Freighter utilised for Scrapping & Junking Missions for Weyland Yutani. The Crew is comprised of these Roles you may find yourselves in; -Ship's Captain/Officer -Ship's Pilot -The Weyland Yutani Corporate Agent -The Roughneck -The Scientist Additional Roles can be discussed....

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We'll be running the game via Roll 20 & communicating via a Discord Server which each player will be invited to. Voice Call is required, Video call is an option depending on how comfortable people are.

What Sean brings to the table

What I would like to bring to the table as a GM will be to generate a space where everyone's creativity is heard, a space that we can share & laugh with eachother. Another part of this dynamic is the ability to allow ourselves to become immersed in the tension, drama & dread of the story - I want players to be like 'frick you' but only because I've put you in a situation you have to make a difficult but exciting decision. I want our group to be united in playing this game, I want everyone to enjoy the story we're all building, but still have the characters at eachother's throats when things get tense. I will be providing some ambience via music, if it's not too much of an overstimulation. I'm not too combat heavy, but let's go roleplay heavy! I do like a bit of rule of cool, but as long as the common understanding is 'Cool' doesn't always equal 'Success'.

Homebrew rules

As there are some differences between the Alien TTRPG & Alien Evolved TTRPG rules - this cinematic scenario was built prior to the Evolved rules were made. One Homebrew I have built in to previous sessions to help thread a gap in rules continuity, you can trade some Stress responses for a Panic response instead. Not something you have to think about now, but have you ever wanted to consolidate your exisiting stress into 1 simple panic.

Safety

How Sean creates a safe table

I would definitely like to establish some Lines & Veils with everyone's personal prefence, and then communicate these lines and veils in the Session 0. I welcome an X Card and want to make sure we don't have any Bleed into real life stress. I believe a Debrief is always a necessary part of playing. To in conclusion, let's work out where your lines are re: things we want to avoid, if we accidentally stumble into something we can stop and for everyone's comfort, we'll check in after the session to make sure we're all still having fun.
