About the adventure

This short adventure (2-3 sessions) is suitable for players of all experience levels. This unconventional dungeon has vibe I can only describe as 'dark whimsy' that deconstructs the 'princess in a tower' trope. With social exploration, espionage, puzzles, traps, combat, and more this adventure has something for everyone. The news of a royal princess drove King Ruharin mad- he immediately decreed the construction of a tower for the princess. To go with such a tower, Towerville was constructed alongside it. A temporary settlement populated by everyone needed to provide the princess with all that she desires. As vassals of House Belhaim, you have been charged to with the retrieval of the Count and Countess's granddaughter. You have been allowed entry to Towerville under the auspices of a royal inspection, but you'll have to complete your mission before the town inspection is over. Without breaking your cover or getting caught. Withing this small corner of the Venscla empire, secrets that affect the world at large are afoot. Uncover Towerville's secrets, descend the tower, and escape with the princess in this semi-postapocalyptic medium-magic setting. If the group is having fun and would like to continue, the adventure would continue at level 6 and would be to investigate King Ruharin's madness.

About me

Hi! My name is Max. Outside of TTRPGs, I enjoy Magic: The Gathering, cooking, reading, exploring, and spending time with my fiance. I've been playing TTRPGs for over a decade and been GMing for about 7 years. I have mostly played and run D&D 5e, but I do have experience with a variety of other systems and will run them if that is the best system for the experience the table is looking for. I am an organizational psychologist by trade, so you can expect a sprinkle of that throughout. I have experience with adventures ranging from short stories to epic sagas, and players ranging from complete beginners to multi-decade veterans. I also have experience creating a welcoming environment for players of all genders, races, sexualities, and neurotypes. A comprehensive session 0 complete with safety tools is a must; players feeling psychologically safe to play in the space and take risks is a essential to a good game. I believe that TTRPGs are about chasing experiences, and I look forward to hearing what you are looking to get out of the game. I have run games in a variety of settings, but my favorite is Ater- a homebrew setting that I have been developing for over 5 years.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be handled before the first session using 2014 rules. All rulebooks for 2014 rules which can be accessed as free PDFs on Anyllip are allowed; take note of the following options: - You may take Magic Initiate, Skilled, or Tough as a free 1st level feat if your background does not come with a feat per the Spelljammer errata. - Freely assigning extra stat points per the rules in Tasha's Cauldron is encouraged. - Extra stuff from Mythic Odysseys of Theros is NOT allowed. - Unearthed Arcana by approval only. Stats will be determined using the following numbers as a standard array: 17, 16, 14, 13, 11, 9. Characters will be generated at level 5 and you may begin with one uncommon magic item other than a +1 weapon/spellcasting focus. Additionally, you may begin with 2 healing potions and an uncommon potion of your choice. Character sheets are to be made using GSheets to integrate with Avrae. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ApmbXHTln99fPTUpanyQRTXNzXbQ8UBTt3Uq8xInQKw/edit?usp=sharing If you have any questions about character creation, don't hesitate to ask.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I plan to host the game via Discord, so there will be a server to join. Dice rolling and character sheet tracking will occur on discord using Avrae. https://avrae.io/ Make sure that you have a discord account, familiarize yourself with Avrae, and have a strong internet connection.

What Max Bloomfield brings to the table

For this adventure, you can expect a fun and fast paced adventure that can be as deep or as shallow as you please. The world is fully 3 dimensional and rewarding to explore. Stylistically, this campaign is half spy thriller and half dungeon crawl. You can expect ambient music, character voices, interesting combat encounters, and environmental storytelling. I abide by rules as intended, with rare exceptions for rule of cool.

Homebrew rules

1. Drinking a HEALING potion can be done as a bonus action. If you quaff a healing potion using your action, maximize the healing from that potion. Giving someone else a potion is always an action and you roll for healing. 2. Silvery Barbs is a 2nd level spell with no other changes. 3. During character creation, full class Wizards may copy 8 (level + PB) additional spells into their spellbook to represent their scribing up to this point. The total level of those spells may not exceed 15. 4. It takes only 10 minutes to complete a short rest, but you may only take 2 short rests between long rests.

How Max Bloomfield creates a safe table

As this is not a long term campaign, there will not be a formal session 0. Pay attention to the content warnings, and if you have questions about specific subject matters my DMs are open. Aside from that, we will use the X-Card system to handle in-game situations. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SB0jsx34bWHZWbnNIVVuMjhDkrdFGo1_hSC2BWPlI3A/edit?tab=t.0 I will be available for at least 15 minutes after each session has ended to talk about the session.
