About the adventure
Tree branches claw across the window pane, lights flicker as the storm intensifies, and the wind wails like a banshee in the night. A fog has rolled around the village of Marais d' Tarascon, cutting it off from the rest of the world. Villagers are scared and wary. Something unnatural stalks the swamps, and the dead are no longer quiet. This is an introductory Ravenloft 2e adventure, but we will be using 1e rules specifically OSRIC 2.2.

About me
Hey! I am a big fan of DnD and have been playing for about 10 years. I'm passionate about creating fun and exciting adventures! My favorite part of DnD is when you tell stories about what happened in the campaign later and you don't say "my character defeated Tiamat" you say "I fought and defeated Tiamat" or you laugh and say "remember when we were in a cave full of poisonous mushrooms and Nick kept making John laugh so he took a bunch of poison damage?" Being a DM I seek to create these fun experiences and feel as though we are in the story experiencing it real time. When it comes to combat I work to create new and interesting encounters to conquer. Roleplaying and Exploration are also a big part of the game that I try to incorporate. My favorite type of ttrpg session is one where there are few "rails" and lots of challenges that the players need to outwit!

Creating your character
Characters will be created using 1e rules. These rules could come from OSRIC, or the original ADND books. If players struggle to create their characters then I am available to help. Characters should be created by Session 0, but I expect that we will tweak the characters during Session 0. I also have pre-made characters for anyone who wants to skip the character creation process.

Preparing for the session
We will be playing on Foundry VTT, I will be sending a link to the players to join when the time comes. Make sure to have a Discord account and a microphone for voice. We will be rolling for character stats during session 0
What Jacob C. brings to the table
As a DM I like to give the players lots of control over the game. Your choices matter and will shape the story. I also embrace the OSR style of play where how clever you are matters more than whats on your character sheet. Being able to creatively problem solve is highly valued and if you go into every encounter guns blazing it will surely lead to an early death for your character. Players should expect a mixture of roleplaying, combat, and exploration. I also do a lot of things Theater of the Mind with some handouts here and there. This is my first time DMing on StartPlaying, but I have lots of experience DMing different games such as Fallout 2d20, 1e, 5e, and Shadowdark.
Homebrew rules
I mostly stick to RAW, but there is much DM adjudication in the OSR style so I will be making lots of judgments on the spot which could mean making up new rules as the game progresses

How Jacob C. creates a safe table
We will go over Lines and Veils during session 0. I will also always be available to answer any questions or concerns. If any concerns come up during the session than a player should message me with their concern and I will chabge things up. Players are expected to treat others with a high degree of respect at my table, so any bullying or other nasty behavior from a player will get them booted immediately.
