About the adventure
This campaign takes place in the cursed valley of Barovia, a land of suffocating darkness and haunting mysteries. The people of Barovia are trapped, cursed along with the land itself. The valley serves as a prison more than a home, forcing its residents to remain in a never-ending nightmare. The source of the curse is the vampire Strahd von Zarovich, who you must defeat in order to escape Barovia. This is, first and foremost, a horror campaign. It touches on a wide variety of horror subgenres, but focuses on gothic themes and body horror. You can expect spine-chilling scenes and edge-of-your seat sequences. The land of Barovia is incredibly hostile and difficult to survive in, which you'll feel consistently throughout your stay. Intensely horrific aspect aside, none of my campaigns are without humor, and you will certainly find a fair deal of levity to help balance out the oppressive air of Barovia. Roleplay will be the focus, but combat and exploration make themselves prominent here as well.

About me
I believe that tabletop games are an unrivaled outlet for self expression and a medium that can be used to create riveting, funny and tear-jerking stories that stay with you for years to come. I pride myself on guiding players to create these stories and strive to center player agency and creativity through every roleplay moment, round of combat, and roll of the dice.

Creating your character
Characters will be discussed during session 0, but players will make their character sheets independently, in between sessions 0 and 1. Character sheets should be created using the official D&D 5e fillable character sheet. Characters should be level 3 to start and use standard array to determine their stats. All official source books are allowed. If you want to use any third party material you just need to send it to me first, and I'll let you know if I allow it - as long as it's reasonable it will most likely be allowed.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
All you need is a Discord account, no need to install or make an account for anything else.
What Cameron Taylor brings to the table
I value investment and immersion highly, and tend to use a lot of different voices for NPCs. I personally am neutral to background music, and will bring up its inclusion during session 0 so you can decide. I do value the rules, but Rule of Cool is also very important and I will never disallow an interesting character moment due to a technicality in the rules.
Homebrew rules
I don't use many house rules, but the ones I usually include by default are below: - Potions are a bonus action - Carrying capacity/ammo don't exist

How Cameron Taylor creates a safe table
This module covers some pretty heavy themes, so I will use quite a few tools to make sure the game is fun and comfortable for everybody. I will send out a link to consent form during session 0 so players can mark what themes they are/aren't comfortable with appearing in-game. Anything you put down on that sheet will be taken seriously and worked around, even if the topic you're uncomfortable with is written into the module and listed as a trigger warning. We will also discuss the themes and nature of the module during session 0. During a session, a player can choose to type 'X', 'N', or 'O' in the chat at any time (this can also be sent privately to me). 'X' means stop immediately and is used to communicate when a line has already been crossed. Play pauses and we discuss how we feel and how to proceed. 'N' means things are veering towards problematic territory and lets me know to either change where the scene is going, move on, or fade to black. 'O' is used to enthusiastically communicate that you are comfortable and are having fun. It can also be used as a question to gauge other people's feelings. After every session, we will briefly check in and make sure everybody felt okay - feel free to let me know if you want anything handled differently going forward.
