About the adventure
👁️ Investigate supernatural crimes in XIX-century Sweden. 👁️ Choose your side in the conflict between progress and tradition. 👁️ Rebuild an old castle to use as your secret headquarters. 👁️ Travel the length and breadth of the Mystic North, hunting for answers to chilling mysteries. You are what they call a Thursday Child, one of the rare few gifted with the ability to see the supernatural. Witches, trolls, gnomes and the rest of the folklore creatures usually remain hidden from the mundane world - but not from your eyes. Together with a few equally gifted individuals you form the Society, a secret gathering dedicated to finding and dealing with the supernatural in Sweden and beyond. You are contracted to solve cases of missing persons, inexplicable occurrences and disproving folk superstitions. Except most of the time there is truth underneath that. Sweden stands on the verge of the true industrial revolution; factories, timber industry and mines spring up everywhere, forcing the old masters of the land into hiding, and often driving them to resentment. It will be up to you to resolve these troubles, for no other can even see these creatures, much less interact with them. And when you get a letter from a wealthy industrial tycoon to resolve a case of missing persons in a remote northern village, it seemed just like another small case... yet proves to be anything but.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Greetings from Central Asia! I’m a full-time professional Game Master based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with over 800 sessions hosted on StartPlaying and over a decade of experience running roleplaying games. I specialise in long-form, character-driven campaigns, particularly dark fantasy, science fiction, horror, and faction-heavy adventures. My games combine the structure and depth of published campaigns with the freedom of a home game. I reshape adventures around the characters, their relationships, and the consequences of their decisions rather than forcing the group through a fixed script. I bring more than a decade of professional experience as an interpreter and international tour guide into my games, too.

Creating your character
This is a Play-by-Post game. Character creation will be done in a separate Discord channel containing the templates and hints for the game. I will be available at all times to help with formatting, rules and everything else!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
All you will need is a Discord account! After you sign up for the game, you'll receive a link to the Discord server in the Prep Materials section. The rest of the game will be happening there. Bring your best detective hat, too!
What Sergey Sakharov brings to the table
This is a campaign designed specifically for Play-by-Post. You can expect: - A dedicated, organised Discord campaign server, with dedicated channels for clues, lore and personalities, so that you can keep track of them all - Simple to use Discord bot for rolling dice. - A world that responds to your actions and their consequences - Personal storylines woven into the larger campaign - A long-form mystery designed to reward investigation, theories and careful attention I guarantee a substantial GM update every weekday, keeping scenes moving and making sure the campaign doesn't disappear into the slow-motion limbo that kills so many PbP games. Players can post whenever their own schedules allow, but every 24 hours the scene moves forward. My aim is simple: the depth and continuity of a long-running tabletop campaign, without requiring another fixed evening in your calendar or the need to talk on the voice chat.

Safety
How Sergey Sakharov creates a safe table
Vaesen is thematically folk horror. Therefore unsettling and downright scary things can and will happen - there will be victims, breakdowns and probably more than a single wound taken during the investigations. Before play, we'll establish Lines and Veils for the group. My default Lines include explicit sexual content and sexual violence; romance or intimacy may exist in the story, but anything sexual remains strictly off-screen. Because this is an asynchronous game, safety tools are simple and always available. You can message me privately at any time to ask that a scene be stopped, changed or skipped. Problematic posts can always be edited or removed, with no explanation required.
