About me
Hey! My name's Jacob, and I've been a fan of tabletop games for almost two decades, initially playing many games of the Powered by the Apocalypse system, before returning to TTRPGs, and D&D specifically, during Covid. I've been a DM since, playing mainly Dungeons and Dragons, and dabbling in others like Daggerheart, Ten Candles, and Candela Obscura! I'm an actor and creative outside of this, and love the collaborative storytelling environment that TTRPG's provide, with everyone bringing their own personal take to every session, character, and story.

Creating your character
We can discuss Character creation in our Session Zero, but I use the 3d6 method, where you roll 4d6's for each stat, and drop the lowest. As this is an adventure aimed at beginners, all players will start at Level 1, but there aren't any restrictions on sourcebooks. That being said, if there's something completely ridiculous and homebrew, chat with me first.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Discord is going to be our main vehicle for chat, so make sure you've got an account on there and I can add you to the channel. I would also suggest creating an account on Quest Portal which will have all VTT needs. I also recommend using D&D Beyond for ease of character creation but that's a personal preference.
What Jacob Stewart (DiceDropbear) brings to the table
As a GM, I'm a trained actor and, while I wish I was Matt Mercer level and will strive to be, I will always ensure each character is distinct. I also use ambient music through Discord to help set the scene. Personally, I believe the rules are helpful guidelines but not the end all be all, and I will always accept a reasonable Rule of Cool.
Homebrew rules
Quickly off the bat; - Health Potions can be either an action or bonus action, where an action gives you the full value of the potion, and a bonus requires you to roll what you regain. - Crunchy Crits on Nat 20s, where you immediately take the maximum damage you could roll, then whatever you roll gets added to that value along with your modifier. An example would be a crit on a dagger attack which is 1d4, then if you roll a 3 and your modifer is 2, the attack would be 9, rather than a 5 without the crit.

Safety
How Jacob Stewart (DiceDropbear) creates a safe table
When you first sign up for this session, I'll send out a form for you to put any lines or veils you might have, which we can lay out anonymously at the session 0. In session, X cards can be either digital or physically manifested, whichever the player is most comfortable with. I'll also leave about 15 minutes minimum to chat and cooldown after the session, just to see where people are at and how they're feeling, as well as take any feedback on board.
