About the adventure
Experience the classic scenario Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus with all new side quests, political intrigue, and a personal reason for your character to descend to hell into the city of Elturel. The basic story begins when the city of Elturel is ripped from the material plane into Avernus: the first circle of the nine hells. Whatever the plot that wrenched the poor souls down, it is only the first step in a world-ending scenario. This is an inherently dark setting that is dangerous to characters. Character death is likely, but where will they go? Will they await the party below? Themes are cults, political intrigue, and the machinations of demons.

About me
I like to run story-driven games with a good balance of combat and roleplay as appropriate for the system. Like so many, I started playing TTRPGs during COVID. In that time, I have run and played dozens of campaigns and one-shot adventures. Dungeons and Dragons was my first, but I am especially fond of Call of Cthulhu. My many hobbies include game design (board games and TTRPG content), and writing. I am a veteran who enjoys creative, tactical combat in D&D, and I am a history buff who enjoys historical accuracy in Call of Cthulhu. I am happy to play with either experienced or new players. As long as everyone is having fun, nothing is off the table.

Creating your character
We will hold a Session 0 that includes creation of a level 1 character and a short combat scenario to set the theme. Players may use a modified point-buy to create their characters: use 30 instead of 27 points, and players may buy a score of 16 for 12 points. A calculator spreadsheet is available. Players electing to use 2014 rules instead of 2024 rules should choose a level 1 feat.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The VTT will use Roll20 including sound effects and ambient music. Please build characters in Roll20 or DND Beyond. I will set up a DND Beyond Campaign for players who do not own the books. The campaign will use Discord for voice chat. No webcam is needed. You can join the discord at any time: https://discord.gg/zF6yV9hFMZ
What Oren brings to the table
I always ask players to attempt to tell me what their character wants to do rather than asking for a specific roll. I always attempt to weave your character backstory into the world. I frequently ask players to provide sensory details or facts about their character past or the world around them. If you are unable to provide these, I am happy to provide them.
Homebrew rules
-Drinking a potion is a bonus action; giving another character a potion takes an action. -I use Brutal Critical: Players roll twice the damage dice and choose one of the dice to double it. -Any spell has a chance to crit. If it is a spell requiring a save, you will still roll 1d20, doing double damage on a critical hit. -I use the 2024 Heroic Inspiration rule. -I am a fan of success at a cost; if you almost get a save, you may succeed at a cost. I often present these to the player as a bargain. -I usually refer to you by your character's name and gender. I only use handle/real world name if we have a computer issue.

How Oren creates a safe table
I have a lines and veils survey used before play through Google forms. You may fill this out if you choose. We will use a Session 0 as well so players know what to expect. During play, I use the X, N, O via Discord chat, and I will have the safety deck up in Roll20. This is less reliable. I prefer a whisper chat in Roll20 if you need me to adjust the game. And always, you may reach out to me directly and privately.
