About the adventure

Imagine a world that might have been our own, but for a twist of fate; a world where the kingdoms of men flourish amongst the ruins of still older empires of Dwarfs and Elves; a time when the flame of civilization burns bright against the encroaching dark of Chaos. This is the world of legend, the world that was; this is the world of Warhammer. Who are you in this world? No-one much, not yet. You are a ferryman, a charcoal-burner, a scribe, a rat-catcher, a squire, a thief. A lowly mortal, plucked by some whim or chance from your ordinary life, and set upon a road of perilous adventure. You have a rusty sword, a few crowns in your purse, and little else with which to win your fortune. Arrayed against you are mutants, brigands, cultists, wild beasts, cutthroats, orcs, goblins, card-sharps, sorcerers, daemons, angry mobs, necromancers, tax collectors... frankly, I don't like your chances. In this game, you will have tremendous freedom to choose where you wish to go and which adventures you want to pursue. The Career system of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay enables you, from your humble starting career, to choose how to improve your character's skills and talents, and achieve a more powerful place in the world. In time, Peasants, Mercenaries, & Initiates can become Guild Masters, Noble Lords, and High Priests... provided they can survive the rigors, of injury, disease, and insanity.

About me

I've been running tabletop roleplaying games, in professional and personal capacities, for nearly twelve years now. I cut my teeth with Dungeons & Dragons, but quickly expanded into a wider variety of games, though my core preference has always been for games of heroic fantasy. I love bringing the feel of pulp adventure stories to life, infused with ideas and motifs drawn from history, mythology, and classic literature, of which I have an abiding love. My games are all about presenting problems for players to solve with their own creativity and wits, whether those problems be social, tactical, or philosophical.

Character creation

Creating your character

Initial character creation will take place during our Session 0. This game uses 2nd Edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WFRP). WFRP character creation is a fun communal activity with lots of rolling on tables to produce a cast of rough-and-tumble misfits. We'll be sticking to the careers and options contained in the Core Rulebook.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you need to do is join the Roll20 game (for which you will need an account). If this is your first experience with the world of Warhammer Fantasy, I suggest reading through the Lore Primer in the game, which is about 4 pages of text. I also strongly suggest reading the General Rules Primer. You may read any of the other rules handouts you wish, but these are not important for starting the game.

What Sean Mullins brings to the table

The game will involve tactical maps for combat, as well as larger maps for visualizing cities and countrysides. At player request, I will make a custom digital token to serve as a miniature for combat.

Homebrew rules

I make a few rebalances to the combat & weapons rules, and have trimmed out a few of the redundant skills and modified some of the talents, and have adjusted the healing system. Other than that, I run pretty closely according to the game rules.

How Sean Mullins creates a safe table

We will have a Session 0 in which I will discuss the nature of the Old World and the many potentially disturbing themes you may encounter. During and after said Session 0, you will have the chance to submit lines and veils.
