About the adventure

In a modern world of knights and cars, wands and flip phones, there’s no better place to study magic than the floating school known as Castle High. Drifting among the mysterious ruins of the ancient world and modern settlements that populate the clouds, this school and its surroundings hold secrets, danger, and something more sinister. A string of disappearances has recently plagued the school, and no one knows who or what is behind it—or who will disappear next. In a Castle High campaign, you’ll play adventurous high schoolers who take magic classes, explore sky islands, and search for their missing classmates. (From Hope and Fear, page 116)

About me

I have been involved with TTRPGs since late 2019. I've been a GM for most of that time, after a friend told me they've been looking for games but couldn't find one. Fast forward to today (08/2026) and I will never look back. I love telling stories with my players. Together, we have been able to weave tales of loss, adventure, and love. I cannot wait to begin telling tales with you all!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will utilize Heart of Daggers for character creation. We will consider character creation a part of Session 0, which will not be counted toward the overall sessions. Heart of Daggers has some incredible resources and automations for characters and campaigns alike. You can utilize anything within the Daggerheart SRD, which will include new options form Hope and Fear and standard options from the Core Rulebook. I do not have any restricted ancestries or communities. You can create to your heart's extent!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will utilize RP through Discord and TupperBox. I will provide links to the server for the game as well as instructions on how to set up Tuppers for those who are unaware. For combat encounters, I will utilize Owlbear Rodeo, with links provided in the Discord server. Players will need to ensure they have accounts for Heart of Daggers and Owlbear Rodeo if they do not already.

What Josh brings to the table

We will be utilizing play by post, but I will try my absolute hardest to make sure each NPC has a distinct voice. I will try to provide tactical maps for beginners to engage with during combat and other visuals to help spark imagination. I am very much a "Rule of Cool" Gm, which is one reason I love the Daggerheart system. If you want to do something that fits perfectly narratively but there's a rule that gets in the way, we will absolutely work it out to ensure there's a satisfying outcome for all. I expect engagement from all of my players, just like you all expect the same from me. Since this is a PbP, I would like to see at least 1-2 posts per 24hr period. If we can all adhere to this, the story can move forward in a meaningful way, and everyone can engage without stressing too hard about it.

Safety

How Josh creates a safe table

I will create and provide a lines and veils document that everyone will need to complete during our "Session 0". Players will be given free use of the "X Card". This will allow you, the player, to put a stop to the game if something encroaches on a line or veil. We will then chat offline (private channels allotted to each player) about it and move forward accordingly. As part of a safe table, I will say this: I will not tolerate any sort of discrimination. This is non-negotiable. I run a very open and inclusive table and expect my players to adhere to that.
