About the adventure

For those who wish to make an experience that's truly their own, this campaign is for you. You can be a new player, or a returning player who wants to experience the early levels of Daggerheart. However, you must be 18 or older. The game's I host are made for my players' enjoyment first, and foremost. Now, let me explain how I'll be using the Daggerheart Campaign frame: The Witherwild. Firstly, let me explain what a campaign frame is. From Daggerheart, they have these settings in the book to help GMs get started on adventures. As a result, to help out those new to Daggerheart, I'll be using one of the campaign frames. Fanewick was once a place of great abundance and peace— dangerous to those unfamiliar with the land, but a cornucopia to those who respected its ways. When Haven invaded the wilds and forced the land into eternal spring, a dangerous bloom known as the Witherwild took hold and now threatens the lives of all who live there. In a Witherwild campaign, you’ll play unlikely heroes from humble beginnings who are reckoning with their newfound duty to save Fanewick’s people from dangerous corruption. We will be going through levels 1 to 3, and in that time frame perhaps you will be able to find a way to fend off this corruption! This is an "Intro to Daggerheart" and "Intro to RPG" style game where I'm completely open to helping new players get into the hobby.

About me

I'm looking to share the wonders of D&D, and other TTRPGs, to any many people as I can! I'm a presenting male who holds great pride in careful session preparation, creative world-building, and attentiveness towards my players. I'm offering a player/fun first approach; a co-operative narrative builder where I help my players tell the story they want to tell. Of course, for newer players, I will instead be a kind, guiding hand helping you learn, understand, and enjoy the hobby! Over the years that I've been a Gamemaster, I've created a lore-rich custom world and I wish to delve further into it's secrets. My players will be given the chance to develop their own characters and become apart of my ever expansive living world, Valier. Though, I do run games in other worlds, not just my custom setting. For each game I host, I aim to allow each player to fully immerse themselves in their characters and the world, telling the story they want to tell. Offering many ways to further enhance your particular character fantasy, from uniquely created items to custom features just for you. I'll have a focus on teaching new players Dungeons & Dragons or other game systems. Most of, but not all of, these games will be set in my custom setting: Valier, The Living World. The types of sessions I'm hoping to host for are D&D, Daggerheart, Draw Steel, Wildsea and more! Though, you're free to ask me to host for a specific module or system. As always, all my games are built for my players! Care to join me for a spell? I'll teach you everything you need to know about this wonderful hobby. I hope to hear from you soon!

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll start with a Session 0 where I'll verbally go over everything from the setting to character creation to variant rules, and more. I'll invite you a private TTRPG Server known as Token World. This is where I host all my games; you'll be able to talk amongst yourselves, and others with like minded interest. This is where Session 0 will be held. Now, regarding character creation. There is only one official way to create your character: On FoundryVTT. During Session 0, I'll invite you to a FoundryVTT server for the game you'll be playing in, and you'll be able to fully make your character. If you want to use features from other books, or homebrew, do let me know, and I'll find those features for your or make them myself. However, if you're hoping to play a fully vanilla character everything will be smooth sailing. During Session 0, we'll handle more important parts of Character Creation. I'll walk you though each step of Daggerheart character creation, and assist you in the best way that I can. If you have a character idea that needs a bit of work to bring to fruition I'll help you the best I can. For this Witherwild game, you will be starting at level 1 in a small village on the southern part of the continent, the farthest away from the main city of Haven. You are free to create any type of character, but they must have been within this small village for, at least, a year before the events of the campaign. Additionally, during session 0, I will ask each player to add a minor element to the village as well as work with me to name it. I tailor my game for each player and each character. I will weave in their themes, and backstories the best I can!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need an account on Discord to actively participate in my games. Once you officially join you'll be sent an email containing my Discord ID. Send a friend request to it, and I'll accept it. On discord, we'll introduce ourselves, and talk a bit about the game. I'll ask you about your hopes for the game, and see if it really is a good fit for you. Then I'll give you an invite to my server where the campaign will be hosted. The server is called Token World. Here, you'll only have access to the few channels that are dedicated to the campaign you've joined. It'll be the main general channel, another for features regarding the campaign, another with character information, and a rolling channel for rolling dice using a bot when not on FoundryVTT. Lastly, there's a voice channel where we'll have our sessions, it'll be voice-only. A camera is NOT required for any of my games, and I, personally, do not use one. For FoundryVTT, that'll be our playground. I'll have various maps prepared, character tokens made for both players, and NPCs with art provided by the players or found online. I solemnly swear to not generate any art using Artificial Intelligence, but I may mistakenly use it for an NPC. Inform me, and I will change the art for them. You'll be able to roll freely on FoundryVTT, and move your own character token around to explore the space, or enjoy combat. Additionally, I use various modules on FoundryVTT to make the playing experience smoother, and much more game-like for a more, overall, fun experience.

What Token Marshall brings to the table

My focus is on storytelling, and the rule of cool. For every game I host, there's a story I'm telling that does not have a good conclusion. It's up to my players to either right that wrong or improve their own lives while the world falls apart around them. During each game, there are countless characters you'll meet along your journey. Any very important ones having a special voice done by myself, or perhaps an added voice effect through voice-mod if they're magnificent enough. However, that's a rarity. Over the course of every scene I utilize various playlists that I've found to enhance the game, and since I use a Discord Bot to do so, you may customize the volume to your liking. From beautiful ren fair-like music tracks to songs that'll make you feel battle ready; I have a playlist for almost any situation. Regarding combat, I do not run combat heavy games. That is to say, I don't have heavy, tactical combats from the start to end of every session. I have a health amount of combats from session to session, and most of them can be defused with proper roleplay, or creative thinking. More important combats are designed to be heavy, and engaging as I want combats that are apart of the story to be intense. Combats are never senseless number crunching time sinks, they're important story telling beats that have real consequences later in the game depending on what you choose to focus on. You must be wise during combat. As always, I run each game for my players, and if they so wish I'll change it up to make the game more enjoyable for them.

Homebrew rules

I am a homebrew heavy DM, and a lot of my games have homebrew baked in. I have a unique fantasy setting I created myself, and have various variant rules I've made, custom tailored to the D&D 5e that both me, and my players wanted to play. However, I won't throw all of my HB rules at you in hopes you love them. Instead, for this game specifically, I will be following Daggerheart's rules pretty closely. I might design a special ability, or item for my players if the opportunity presents itself. If there is a ruling we all are not finding fun, I do not mind ignoring it or changing it moving forward. All house rules will be discussed in-depth during the game. Homebrew is my bread, and butter, if there's anything you'd like, I'll customize the game for your experience!

Safety

How Token Marshall creates a safe table

During Session 0, I'll go over the various different safety tools that I use for my games. However, I can mention a few here. I use Lines and Veils, in which "Lines" are topics I will NOT mention, and "Veils" being topics that will not get much depth, or get a fade to black. I will be personally sending my Lines and Veils during Session 0 Each hour, we will take a small 2-4 minute break. Before, and after the break I will also check in with each player to ensure everyone is doing ok. Once we reach time, the game will pause no matter where we are, and we'll be free to chat for a little bit. I do Stars, Wishes, and Plans. Stars are a player's favorite moment, Wishes are what a player wants to happen sometime during the campaign, and Plans are what the players as a WHOLE want to do next session.
