About the adventure
My Mind is My Fortress Deceived, betrayed, paralyzed by a wooden stake to the heart. Now your body is pinned down in your coffin to stop you from rising. A long darkness, then something wakes you, well almost, you cannot move, still paralyzed it seems. You cannot see, but feel the taste of blood. Underground, by the smell of the stale air. Your thoughts move slowly like in a bad dream as you reach out with your powerful senses, seeking those who took your place. You find your Childe now leading the Clan, having taken your rightful place at the council. Resentment growing, the desire for Vengeance burns in your old black heart. You are aware of the Elders nearby, the other members of the council of this small walled town, your home. Perceiving them in their coffins, they too stir in the darkness. And outside the simple mind of the faithful servant who managed to hide during the coup, waiting for your command. Vaguely remembering how your Childe was the one to spill a few drops on your lips, just enough to wake you, then the probing of your mind, the questions, the traitor trying to pry loose your secrets. Giving the ungrateful Childe nothing. Your mind is your fortress. ------------------- Out of character: This is perfect for you if you're busy, but still want to be able to play a bit and have some fun! In this story you are an Elder, a leader of your clan and a council member in a small town. However, you are currently trapped and your thoughts move ever so slowly, so you must be patient in trying to find a way out of this current predicament. We play by post only, and to limit the amount of time needed each week, we also limit what actions can be taken, and put a word limit on the texts you can write. I make suggestions, but we reach goals together. All this to make sure that it will not take too long to play, but still have something fun to think about on your spare time. Week 1: The players write actions and reactions. Week 2: The GM replies and inserts new information. Week 3: Players Week 4: The GM And so on... Deadline to post Sundays (will also be charged each Sunday). You only post on the player's week, me on the GM week, ensuring the speed of the game will be manageable. --- Some possible goals: (you can set your own) * Gain influence in a chosen domain in the town, slowly. * Solve situations discover as your mind travels. * Try to figure out what is going on in the town, city secrets. * Find out who is loyal, and who is a traitor. * Getting your strength back and breaking free. * Getting revenge on your treacherous Childe. * Find an opportunity to become the next Regent of the region? etc. We discover the stories together, nothing is set in stone. You will have agency to drive and form the stories. PbP - play by post.

About me
Hi, I'm Greg. I've been a player, a Storyteller and a GM since the viking age. Laid-back, fun, friendly, easy to get along with! Been running events at cons, in gaming clubs, and with friends for forever, it's what I love doing most of all! To do that for a living would be a dream come true!

Creating your character
CHARACTER CREATION We will use Discord to create the characters via chat or talk. My server: https://discord.gg/bJmrK2qpb Rules: 2ed Dark Ages: Vampire, 2002. (Old school classic.) Don't worry if you don't have the book or PDF, we'll make it work. I can also help out with suggestions for characters, if you are new to the game. We will be making Elder characters SESSION ZERO We will talk about: * Safety preferences when writing, lines and veils and cards. Things to remove or minimize. * Things you very much would enjoy in the game, if you have ideas. * Character ideas. * Other stuff that I may have forgotten when writing this. I tend to go with the rule of cool, so I'm excited to hear what you come up with! Looking forward to hearing from you! Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need an account on Discord, which is free to sign up to. Let me know if you need any assistance in setting it up. (It should be rather easy.) https://discord.com/ PbP - play by post
What Viking Skald | Greg brings to the table
DO EXPECT: * An experienced, flexible and open-minded Game Master. * Theatre of the Mind. * Rule of Cool. Better a flowing game than rules layer. * RP heavy, sometimes silly, sometimes scary (hopefully). * Jokes and fun and a light mood around the table. * Immersion when the stars are right. * Intrigue, mystery, social RP, trouble. * 15 minutes of fame - each character around the table will have moments to shine, so please let them. Your moments will also come! Meaning respect others RP as you would like them to respect yours. * Combat lite - the tension and excitement is important, the mechanics not quite so much, but are needed naturally. * Dark themes and horror. * Player choices that matter and get consequences, good or bad. * A living world where NPCs do have their own ideas and plans. * A world that adapts and changes by your actions. * Lots of room for improvisation and ideas. * Unexpected outcomes. * Some mysteries may not be solved right away or at all, as in life. * The journey and the moments is the fun! * My first language is not English, although I get by pretty well, so I may miss references or misunderstand something at times, do feel free to advice me, I like to learn. WARNING: * Since this is at the time of the 4th crusade there will be religious themes and tensions between the Christians and Muslims, and other religious groups. These can be adjusted if needed with the safety rules. DO NOT EXPECT: - Not many combat heavy stories. - Not lots of hack and slash and gory details, it fades to black. - Different horrors will certainly be implied but mostly not described in very much detail, most of the time. (Suggestions may be more scary.)
Homebrew rules
For the sake of a moving and flowing game I sometimes make rules calls on the fly, or mistakes even if I don't remember a rule. If someone remembers it correctly, feel free to say so – but I do try to avoid longer rules discussion ingame, better to look it up after the session if important. Also, some rules are open for different interpretations, I may for instance have ideas about some Disciplines, how they work, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Or indeed other rules. To have fun and go with the flow and rule of cool is always my guiding light.

How Viking Skald | Greg creates a safe table
You are always welcome to send me a message either here on Startplaying or on my Discord server, https://discord.gg/bJmrK2qpb I will be sending a link to my Lines and Veils document at the session 0, or ask me if you would like to see it in advance. For aftercare we will do Stars and Wishes and also check in on the group how they are feeling about the story so far. Any player is also always very welcome to send me a direct message on discord, I will keep discussions in direct messages private. It is a horror game after all, so things we haven't thought of or didn't know may pop up, but my priority is always the safety and comfort of my players, so we can always change things around if needed. Never hesitate to use the safety tools either in the session or in a private message to me. Player safety beats story every time, easy!
