About the adventure

The Continent of Argest is riddled with monsters in the frontier lands between cities and towns, at the moment nobody knows what has happened in the wilds to cause the trade between regions drop to almost none due to the increased dangers. Players will journey into the countryside to determine the cause of increase danger and report back to cities and ultimately solve the issue. I use a mix of 5e 2014 and 2024 with a large amount of homebrew items and rules that will be implemented over the course of the game. game will be run through the Fantasy Grounds program. party members will start the game largely vanilla in character abilities and gain unique items and abilities to their character. for example a player i had in a past game was an isekai from the marvel movies and was a fish out of water character that learned to combine magic in the world with technology from his time and eventually returns home. My game is heavily influenced by character choices, I make a start point and the players find the end point.

About me

I started DMing Dungeons and dragons 5e in 2015 and have recently picked up Daggerheart. I use fantasy grounds for my games as I tried other platforms but this was my preference. I have run games for people in person and online through campaigns and oneshots. I am no stranger to homebrew as i use one form or another in each of my games but I tend not to use stuff i didn't make or help make with a player.

Character creation

Creating your character

first session will involve creating characters and going over basic functions of program, characters can be created with any of the source books I currently own, starting at level 1 and ability scores are done in the roll 4d6 drop the lowest method on Fantasy Grounds first session. In the session the characters should have shared backstories and be on the same page about what the parties goals are. the books are most of the 2014 books up until after Strixhaven. Party will start in an Inn on the edge of a large city.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The Fantasy Grounds program(Free Download) will need to be installed on computer and an account created. Players will be invited to my discord for voice communication, cameras are not required but can be used if you wish. think of some ideas for your character and what connections they may have to other characters, these should be broad and can be tailored to fit game during session zero and beyond.

What Paul brings to the table

Players can expect me to be a little flexible on rules depending on situation and if it would be cool for something to happen, rolling a natural 20 will not be a automatic success on skill checks though. Combat will be challenging to defeat with no preparation, well thought out plans and scouting of locations can gain insights into things that may help or hurt the encounter. there is a system from daggerheart i will be using to enhance the game where I track what characters do actions and make sure that players get the spotlight and dont feel left out of any gameplay unless they want to stay out of an event.

Homebrew rules

Potions don't take an action to drink but do require a bonus action to feed to another character. To discourage abuse additional potions in short period can mix poorly, cancel or reverse effects or create entirely new effects. Critical hits on attacks are max damage of dice plus roll. Death Saves get progressively harder if you go down multiple times in a combat and you keep failed saves until a rest. If you would die you get a choice Live, Die, or Fate this will be discussed in session 0 Unless its a group check multiple rolls on the same check are not allowed but characters may see something with passive scores, for example Player A makes a investigation roll to check a chest for traps and rolls a 6, Player B now wants to look for traps after Player A rolled poorly, Player B may only see traps if their passive investigation is higher than the DC of the check. Spell scrolls are available to all caster classes but some spells may be harder for some classes to cast for example a plaladin trying to cast a level 7 spell scroll may have to roll a High DC check you cast it successfully. Players looking for specific magic items will not find them as many magic items will be much more rare or not exist in this world. The world moves around the party, evil plans may not wait for the party to arrive to stop them. More homebrew may get added throughout the campaign.

Safety

How Paul creates a safe table

Players will need to fill out a questionnaire for the things that are on the table and off the table when it comes to themes and subjects to be in the game. Session 0 will go over any things not covered by questionnaire either in private message or openly depending on comfort. Check in cards can be in video, in DMs, in discord chat via Emojis or said aloud. If needed I can talk with player in private immediately or after the session and go over content flags.
