About the adventure

Three hundred years ago, the Cataclysm shattered the world of Krynn and the gods fell silent. Now a shadow rises in the east: the Dragon Armies of Takhisis, the Queen of Darkness, sweeping across the land behind draconian legions and winged terrors not seen in a thousand years. Their eyes are turning west — toward the port city of Kalaman, and toward a devastating weapon buried in the ruins of the past. You begin as ordinary people in a world that has forgotten its gods — farmers, sellswords, wanderers, and dreamers. When the war arrives at your doorstep, you'll decide whether to flee or to stand. Across this full levels 1–11 campaign, you'll defend besieged towns, unravel the schemes of Dragon Highlords, witness the return of true magic to Krynn, and help decide the fate of Solamnia itself. This is heroic fantasy with real weight: a world with deep history, unforgettable NPCs, sweeping battles, and the slow, hard-won return of hope. The story runs from humble survivors to heroes of the War of the Lance, and every choice you make shapes how that war unfolds. New players are genuinely welcome. I'll teach you the dice, character creation, and everything else as we go — no prep or prior experience needed. Veterans will find plenty of tactical depth and lore to sink into. If you love ensemble stories where every character matters, there's a seat at this table for you.

About me

Well met, adventurers! I'm Avner, and whether you're brand new to tabletop role-playing or continuing a long journey, I'm thrilled to share a table with you. I started DMing 10 years ago when I got tired of waiting for someone else to run a D&D game and decided to learn how myself — and I've been immersed in the hobby ever since. In my three years on StartPlaying I've hosted over 300+ games and counting, and I've done my best to soak up every system I can get my hands on. My dice-rolling journey started with Warhammer Quest and HeroQuest, and these days I run and love 5e and the new 2024 D&D, Star Wars RPG, Pathfinder, Genesys, Cypher, World of Darkness, and many more. What ties them all together is the thing I care about most: players telling a shared story, with highs and lows that create memories lasting years. I've played in just about every format there is — dice around a kitchen table, across a camera, on Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds, and plenty of hard-fought play-by-post. If there's a way to play, I've probably tried it. What I bring to a table isn't just rules knowledge — it's a polished, immersive game with custom maps, atmospheric audio, written recaps so no one loses the thread, and a story we build together. I'd love the chance to bring that to you.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters are created at level 1 during a free Session 0, so new players get hands-on help and everyone starts on the same page. We'll build together on D&D Beyond — if you don't have an account, a free one works fine and I'll walk you through setup. Ability scores use standard array or point buy (your choice). We'll use the Player's Handbook plus the character options in Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen, including Krynn-specific races like kender and the Lunar Magic and Knight of Solamnia subclasses. If you want to use options from other official sourcebooks, just run them by me first. Bring a concept — even a vague one — and we'll turn it into a hero together.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before Session 1, please: Join our Discord server (link sent after booking) — this is our home base for scheduling, questions, and between-session chat. Set up a free D&D Beyond account for your character sheet. Have a working mic and a stable internet connection. Show up to Session 0 — no reading or prep required, just curiosity. That's it. Everything you need to play, I'll provide or walk you through. Beyond Maps runs in your browser, so there's nothing to download for maps and combat.

What Avner brings to the table

I run an immersive, story-first table. Expect distinct NPC voices, ambient music and soundscapes, and evocative maps rendered through Beyond Maps to bring Krynn to life. Combat is tactical and meaningful but never a slog — I lean on the Rule of Cool and want your clever ideas to matter more than rules technicalities. My priority is a welcoming, collaborative table where new and experienced players thrive together. I teach rules in the moment, spotlight every character, and build the story around the choices you make. You bring the heroes; I'll bring the world, the war, and the Dragon Queen's shadow looming over all of it.

Safety

How Avner creates a safe table

Player comfort comes first. Every campaign begins with a Session 0 where we set expectations, establish Lines and Veils, and make sure everyone knows how to flag content they'd rather avoid — no questions asked. I use X, N, and O cards during play (digital, so a quick message works), and the Open Door policy always applies: you can step away at any time for any reason, no explanation needed. We take regular breaks, and I check in after heavier sessions. This is a game meant to be fun for everyone at the table.
