About the adventure
Are you new to D&D 5e, specifically the 2024 rules, and want to learn them? Or are you curious about what this Starting Adventure has to offer? This series of adventures or scenarios goes from Level 1 to 3, making it ideal for the beginner as you navigate the Keep on the Border where characters can rest, talk with the locals, and obtain new equipment while taking a break from the dangers of the wild. When characters are ready, they can head out into the forest to explore or brave the dangers of the Caves of Chaos for riches and glory. This is a fairly sandbox adventure with players able to adventure and explore anywhere they want within the confines of this Starting Adventure. It will be up to players to engage in speaking with NPCs, get quests, and explore, figuring out when to run or when to fight.

About me
I am a long-time DM/GM/Storyteller and player since the mid-'90s. I have run a variety of games over the years both tabletop and online from Palladium Fantasy, Rifts, Heroes Unlimited, Word of Darkness with Werewolf the Apocalypse and Changeling the Dreaming, new Chronicles of Darkness for Hunter the Vigil and Changeling the Lost, and of course, D&D with 3.5 and 5th edition, mainly for the Eberron and Forgotten Realms settings and homebrew. I strive for role-playing and have run games that lean more combat-heavy or more RP-intensive, depending on who's at the table. So far, I have completed 4 Lost Mines of Phandelver adventures, 1 Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, 1 Dragon of Icespire Peak, 2 Tyranny of Dragons campaigns & 2 Eberron campaigns to level 20 completed. There are currently 4 other campaigns taking parties to 20th level and closing in on that milestone. I have several games a week I run for.

Creating your character
Point Buy for character creation, character sheets will be stored on D&D Beyond where I can "collect" and look them over. All starting characters will be at level 1. Because this is intended for new players, please keep character options to the Player's Handbook. The setting is Forgotten Realms, so keep the character themed to that world. I know there are a slew of options from other sourcebooks and campaign settings; please check with me if that is even a book I own.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need to have a mic and a place with minimal interruptions. Bring your spirit of adventure, the more you're willing to interact, the richer the RP can be. Plus notes, take notes, there's only so much I can do from my end with NPCs met and current objectives if players don't take notes either. Maybe something was important to you, and you can ask about that later. D&D Beyond will be used for storing character sheets. If you want your own paper, physical copy of a character sheet, go for it, just keep it up to date with the site. Have a Discord Account so you can join the party. You will also need the Above VTT browser extension for various battle maps.
What Anna brings to the table
The prepared adventure and flexibility, as every player/character will respond differently to circumstances. I have a wide variety of books and access to D&D Beyond.
Homebrew rules
Since we're learning, I will do my best to stay to RAW/RAI so that players learn how the rules go for adjudicating decisions and outcomes. Point Buy for character creation and average hit points. I try to follow RAW with much of the homebrew rules that get posted on the Discord meant for clarification and FAQs. In addition to RAW, is Rules as Intended and Rule of Cool whenever gray areas come up.

How Anna creates a safe table
The sooner you contact me about interest in the game, the more time I have to help get your character into the game with either a Session 0 or through messages. Yes, this is a fantasy game, we come here to escape the real world, there will be fantasy violence and action. If there is something that is an absolute "No" for crossing a line, let me know.
