About the adventure
Edinburgh has long been called one of the most haunted cities in the world. A place where Celtic legends, medieval witchcraft, forgotten vaults, ancient universities, Victorian occultism, cutting-edge science, and modern technology exist side by side. Every culture that came to Scotland left something behind—and much of it never truly disappeared. Beneath the famous closes and castles lies another Edinburgh, hidden behind secret societies, haunted cemeteries, forgotten libraries, abandoned laboratories, and places where reality has grown dangerously thin. This is a living World of Darkness 20th Anniversary live online chronicle built around exploration, mystery, politics, and long-term storytelling. You are not expected to know decades of lore before joining. Whether you are an experienced Kindred or taking your first steps into the World of Darkness, the city gradually reveals its secrets through investigation, roleplay, and the choices your character makes. This chronicle follows Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary while taking place inside Mythveil's persistent vision of Edinburgh—a city that continues to evolve whether your character is present or not. Nights pass. Institutions change. Businesses rise and fall. Universities publish new research. Construction projects reshape old districts. Police investigate strange crimes. Rumours spread through the streets. People disappear. Some events have perfectly ordinary explanations. Others are far more difficult to understand. The city exists independently of its inhabitants. This campaign is built using Mythveil's Rexborn Living World Framework, where the world never waits for its players. Edinburgh remembers. Factions pursue their own ambitions. Political alliances shift. Ancient rivalries continue behind closed doors. New opportunities appear while old mistakes leave lasting scars. Every meaningful decision can influence the future of the city, and events continue to unfold between weekly live sessions. Your story is first and foremost the story of the Kindred. The Jyhad never truly sleeps, the Masquerade is always fragile, and power is rarely what it seems. Yet Edinburgh is larger than any single court, clan, or conspiracy. Strange rumours circulate beyond vampire society. Forgotten places awaken. Unexplained incidents appear in the news. Whispers spread through universities, museums, churches, and hidden corners of the city. Whether these events are coincidence, the work of unseen factions, or something far older is for your character to discover. Rather than following a fixed storyline, you become part of a persistent city where every character leaves a mark. Build alliances. Create enemies. Control territory. Protect the Masquerade—or threaten it. Shape the future of Edinburgh while trying to survive a city that has been keeping its secrets for centuries. Because in Edinburgh, history never truly sleeps. Neither do those who live in its shadows.

Creating your character
Character creation is a collaborative process and begins before the chronicle starts. We focus on creating a believable person first—someone with a history, ambitions, relationships, beliefs, fears, and reasons for becoming part of Edinburgh's hidden world. Mechanics support the character concept, not the other way around. Every character begins with a personal story, existing connections, and goals that tie them naturally into Mythveil's living Edinburgh. Whether you are newly Embraced or have walked the night for years, your past matters just as much as your future. Character creation is handled together through Discord before play begins. I'll guide you through the process, help translate your ideas into mechanics, and ensure your character fits naturally into the chronicle, the city, and its ongoing events. No previous Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary experience is required. The core rulebook is all you need to get started. Material from other official supplements may be approved if it fits the tone, themes, and balance of the chronicle.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Preparing for the chronicle is simple. You will need a Discord account, a reliable internet connection, headphones and a microphone. Weekly live voice sessions take place on Discord, where we also host character creation, handouts, artwork, journals, private scenes and campaign channels. More important than knowing the rules is having an idea of the person you would like to play. You do not need a finished character sheet or even a complete concept. A few thoughts about your character's background, profession, relationships, beliefs, ambitions, fears, or the kinds of stories you want to explore are enough for us to begin. The more you bring to the initial concept, the more deeply the chronicle can respond to your character. Every player receives personal relationships, mysteries, conflicts, opportunities, and long-term storylines within Mythveil's living Edinburgh. You might play a newly Embraced vampire struggling to understand their condition, an ambitious Kindred seeking influence, a survivor trying to protect what remains of their mortal life, or an experienced vampire arriving in Edinburgh with unfinished business. We will build your place in the city around the character you want to portray. No previous experience with Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary is required. I will guide you through character creation, the setting, and the rules step by step, allowing you to discover both your character and Edinburgh naturally through play.
What Dunchan Hunter brings to the table
At Mythveil, every chronicle is designed to feel less like a game and more like stepping into another world. Throughout the campaign, you'll receive a rich collection of immersive material, including historical maps, photographs, newspaper articles, handwritten letters, university records, police files, occult manuscripts, research notes, custom handouts, artwork, atmospheric music, and visual references. Edinburgh becomes a living city to explore rather than simply a setting to imagine. As a historian and researcher, I strive to make every location, culture, belief system, and historical reference feel authentic. Real history, folklore, mythology, religious traditions, archaeology, and local legends form the foundation of every chronicle before the supernatural is woven into the world. The result is a World of Darkness that feels believable because it grows naturally from reality. My storytelling follows Mythveil's Rexborn Living World Framework. The city never waits for its players. NPCs pursue their own ambitions. Institutions evolve. Political alliances shift. Investigations continue. Rumours spread. Old secrets resurface. Every meaningful decision leaves lasting consequences that can shape Edinburgh long after your character has walked away. My games emphasize roleplay, investigation, exploration, diplomacy, and meaningful player choice. Combat is dangerous, cinematic, and always serves the story rather than becoming the story itself. Creative thinking, believable roleplay, and character-driven decisions are rewarded far more often than simply rolling the highest numbers. Whether this is your first journey into the World of Darkness or you've been playing for years, my goal remains the same: to create stories you'll still remember long after the chronicle has ended. Stories that remember. Worlds that change.

Safety
How Dunchan Hunter creates a safe table
Player safety will always be more important than the story. Before the chronicle begins, we'll discuss expectations, preferred themes, personal boundaries, and the overall tone of the game. Every player is encouraged to share any topics they would rather avoid or approach with care. Our goal is to create compelling horror and meaningful drama without crossing personal boundaries. This chronicle uses Lines & Veils, open communication, and the X, N & O Cards through Discord. You can contact me privately at any time if you need to pause, fade a scene to black, change the pacing, or step away from the game. No explanation is ever required in the moment. Although Edinburgh is a dangerous city where difficult choices carry real consequences, player agency always comes first. Horror is meant to challenge characters—not the people playing them. Trust, respect, and communication are the foundation of every Mythveil chronicle. Before play begins, we'll hold a Session 0 to discuss the chronicle, establish boundaries, create characters collaboratively, answer questions, and make sure everyone shares the same expectations. My goal is simple: to create a welcoming environment where players feel safe exploring dark stories, knowing they'll always be treated with respect and supported by everyone at the table.
