About the adventure
The Moonshroud Realms is a living world where bustling cities, quiet villages, ancient ruins, and untamed wilderness are all connected by the people who call them home. Begin your journey in the great Freehold of Bridgeport before venturing into a realm filled with dangerous frontiers, forgotten histories, powerful guilds, and mysteries waiting to be uncovered. Whether you're delving into long-lost dungeons, solving local troubles, or chasing rumours across the realm, every adventure is part of a world that continues to grow and evolve. This campaign begins at 1st level using the 2024 D&D 5e rules and welcomes both new and experienced players. Your characters will start as unknown adventurers, earning their reputation through the choices they make rather than following a predetermined path. As the party grows, so too will the opportunities before them. The direction of the campaign will be shaped by your actions, your interests, and the stories your group creates together. My games focus on immersive roleplay, meaningful exploration, tactical combat, and player agency. The Moonshroud Realms rewards curiosity, creative problem-solving, and teamwork. NPCs remember your actions, settlements change over time, and the world reacts to your successes and failures. Combat is challenging but fair, exploration is rewarding, and there is always another road to travel or mystery to investigate. Creating your character
Characters begin at Level 1 using the 2024 D&D rules. Ability Scores: Point Buy. Starting Equipment: Standard starting equipment for your class and background (no starting gold). Hit Points: Maximum at 1st level, then average (fixed) hit points on level-up. Sources: Official 2024 D&D books and the Soulstone setting only. The Moonshroud Realms introduces its own ancestries, backgrounds, organisations, and character options, and I strongly encourage players to use them. They help immerse your character in the setting and create stronger connections to the world from the very first session. Multiclassing is available, but I prefer it to reflect your character's story rather than being taken purely for mechanical advantage. If you're considering multiclassing, let's work together to make it a natural part of your character's journey. Anything outside these guidelines is always open to discussion. If you have a character concept you're excited about, I'm happy to work with you to see if it fits the Moonshroud Realms.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before your first session, please ensure you have the following: • A Discord account with a working microphone (a webcam is optional but always welcome). • Fantasy Grounds Unity installed (it's now free for everyone). • Syrinscape Online Player installed (free) for immersive music and sound effects. • A stable internet connection and a reasonably quiet place to play. Before the session, I'll provide you with the Discord server details, your Fantasy Grounds login information, and any setting information you'll need to begin your adventure. If you're new to Fantasy Grounds, don't worry, I'm happy to help you get everything set up before we begin.
What Old Dad brings to the table
I strive to create an immersive game where the world feels alive and your decisions matter. I use Fantasy Grounds Unity to automate the mechanics where possible, keeping the game moving while leaving plenty of room for roleplay, exploration, and memorable moments. Expect atmospheric music and sound effects through Syrinscape, detailed maps and artwork, distinctive NPCs, and tactical combat that rewards teamwork and creative thinking. To keep battles dynamic, I use rerolled initiative each round, made quick and seamless through Fantasy Grounds. I generally follow the 2024 Rules as Written, but I'm not afraid to make the occasional common-sense ruling or embrace the Rule of Cool when it genuinely improves the game. My goal is always to be fair, consistent, and keep the focus on everyone having a great time.

How Old Dad creates a safe table
Player comfort and communication are important to me. Before the campaign begins we'll have a Session 0 to discuss expectations, character creation, table etiquette, and any concerns players may wish to raise. The Moonshroud Realms is a fantasy setting and may include mature themes such as violence, horror, moral dilemmas, prejudice, war, and other elements common to the genre. These themes serve the story rather than existing for shock value. I have an open-door policy. If something isn't working for you or you have a concern during the campaign, please speak with me privately and we'll work together to find a solution that keeps the game enjoyable for everyone.
