About the adventure

The village of Brookehaven, a human village in what used to be the mighty human kingdom of Kelvidore, has been left to goblins a hundred years after a world war was halted by the appearance of monster hoards into the world. Wars no longer matter in a world where surviving monsters is the new norm. Brookehaven hasn't had visitors in decades, and any information of the outside world has boiled down to rumors. No one knows what the world has become outside the village walls. The few brave hunters barely leave the sight of the walls to hunt or fish the nearby river. Of the people who decided to leave to head north to the old baron's castle of Hamindel, not a single soul had returned. Lord Henry, the baron, had stopped sending his tax collectors long ago, and the rumor is the barony is in ruin as well. Maybe these villagers are the last living people in the world. Last night, the village was attacked, and once again the village is struggling to clean up the mess with the dozen more deaths to add to the list. The numbers are starting to dwindle faster as the goblins become more and more aggressive and numbered. The villagers are beginning to almost accept their future deaths and you can feel your fellow survivors starting to lose their faith. They're starting to give up. It's been so long. But you haven't given up. You believe there's something else out there. Goblins can't keep you from the world. You will not die a coward behind these failing walls. It's time to leave the village, even if it means you die out there. At least you will die under the stars and free.

About me

Hello, I go by Salty. 30. He/Him. Gay. I've been playing DnD for 8ish years, and have been DMing for 4. This game was a savior during covid, and it is the one obsession that hasn't fizzled out over time. Most of my day is spent thinking about this game, running it, or watching/listening to others running it. I have ran all types of games, from high fantasy saving the world from the death god, to more scifi things of animal folk figuring out their walking monoliths are actually terraforming robots from another planet. Right now I've been enjoying a more straight forward type of game that is lead more by the decisions of the party instead of the powers that be. Like currently, I've been running Goblin Trouble campaigns, which is an open world survival/exploration game where anything could be around the corner and the party fully decides where they go and what matters in the world.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will start at Level two, we will be using DnDBeyond and Roll20. It is 2024 rules, keeping to the phb for classes, races, and subclasses. And I do a little boosted of a standard array. 17, 15, 13, 12, 10, 8. We will also be doing exp leveling, since this kind of game doesn't really have proper milestones to follow. Besides that, it's mostly by the book.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We use Discord and Roll20 for game. I also am a person who has my camera on because it helps with communication and getting across body language for myself and my npcs. You don't have to use a camera, but I'm hopeful to find others who enjoy a face to face experience.

What Jerry brings to the table

I'm usually a pretty by the book DM, though there are always those times where I'm more willing to bend things for fun or interesting situations. I use Kenku for background music. I'm not the best at voices, but I do my best.

Homebrew rules

Healing potions do hit dice instead of d4s. (A barbarian would roll 2d12+2, while a wizard would roll 2d6+2) Also, using an action to take full healing on a potion. Meaningful Crits: You get max dice damage plus what you roll when you crit. (A longsword crit would be 1d8+mod+8, a dagger would be 1d4+mod+4, etc) Flanking: You only get a +2 to the attack roll, and you cannot get flanking while more than two enemies are within 5 feet of you. Obscured Fighting: When obscured by a spell like Fog Cloud or Darkness, you gain +5 to ac. (This raises the usefulness of those type of spells for defense.) Circle Casting is availiable.

How Jerry creates a safe table

In Session 0 we will be going over things that people don't want to see in game. Though, I probably share all the same no nos as most of you.
