About the adventure
Welcome, adventurer in the making. Streets, bustling with people, each with their own goals, motivations, and thoughts. Markets, full of curious tastes, smells, and sounds. Taverns filled with adventurers and adventures. And this only scratches the surface. What secrets lie beyond the obvious, what treasures are waiting to be found? What to Expect This game will introduce new players as well as experienced ones to the urban world of Waterdeep. Our sessions will consist of all three pillars of TTRPGs - roleplay, combat and exploration. You will always have the opportunity to solve situations in ways that suit your likings, without being forced down a single path. Having fun is a top priority and comes before rules conformity. Really, we are playing a game together, and games are about sharing a fun experience! Sessions are going to run for 2 hours. This means, that at around 2 hours I start to look for a good point to make a cut. Occasionally this can lead to a session that only lasts 1:45 as well as sessions lasting 2:15. Usually I‘m pretty good at hitting the sweet spot, though. In Session 0 we will discuss, if we want to make a break in the middle. If we agree to take a break, it will mostly be 15 minutes, which will not be taken off our playtime. About Me I‘ve been playing Pen & Papers and TTRPGs for 20 years now and I got into GMing 10 years ago. Systems I have played or run are World of Darkness, Shadowrun, Dark Eye, Call of Cthulhu, Dragonbane, and mostly Dungeons & Dragons.. I ran multiple campaigns with friends, online and convention games and what was always most important to me, was to convey the feeling of freedom to the players. The freedom to be creative, to be funny, to be serious, simply to play the game the way you want to - No Rails, Just Tales. Safety Tools We will go through the No-Go’s together in Session 0, but here are a few thoughts on safety and comfort. Another top priority is to feel good during the game. If at any time during the game, something comes up with what you don’t feel comfortable, you are strongly encouraged to let me know - either in the group chat, or anonymously in a private chat. We won’t need to talk about it, we won’t question it, we might just need to clarify what exactly it is and avoid it from that point on. What You Need to Bring We will be using Discord for chatting with each other and D&D Beyond for character sheets and VTT, so you will need a free account for both of those. In Session 0 we are going to decide together, if we use a camera or not, but of course we all need some kind of microphone. Some things are also expected from you, the players. Please be on time, and if you can’t make it, let us know as early as possible. Respect each other. This means being friendly towards everyone else, but also to let everyone shine during the game. And never hesitate to ask questions - especially, but not limited to, when you are new to the game.

About me
Hi and welcome! My name is Sam, and I’ve always been passionate about storytelling and creating immersive, atmospheric experiences. That’s been true in my songwriting—and even more so since I became a game master. Like many, I first stepped into the world of tabletop roleplaying as a player. A friend introduced me to Shadowrun through one-on-one sessions, and I was instantly hooked. I fell in love not just with the setting, but with the boundless creativity—and with the fact that GMs and players build the world together. After a few years (and several systems explored), my friends and I eventually found a home in Dungeons & Dragons and the 5e system. I’ve been running regular games since 2017 and am always looking for ways to improve and grow as a GM. Now, I want to share what I’ve learned—my ideas, my stories, and my time—with others. Whether you’re a curious newcomer or a fellow veteran, I hope to inspire, support, and contribute to your journey through the world of TTRPGs. Thanks for stopping by—and have fun at the table!

Creating your character
We talk about character concepts in Session 0. If help is needed, we can go through character creation together. We will use the Dungeons & Dragons 5.5e core rules. If you wish to use other content, we can talk about it. Ability Scores are determined by Standard Array. Starting level will be 1.

Preparing for the session
As preparation for our Session 0, you can fill out two PDFs under the following link. It helps you shape your character and it helps me understand what is important to you. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yIP8ypkDL-rr_zKDensN2gYT64PB7SRS/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N36Y2SUsLLnH1UCZtOocQvSZkcxaCLYH/view?usp=share_link
What No Rails Just Tales brings to the table
I will share the necessary source books with you on D&D Beyond, as soon as you joined the campaign and we agreed on the source books we are going to use. You will be able to join my Discord server. Other than that, I will play ambient music during our games, which you can turn on/off and adjust to your liking. Sometimes I will lean a bit into voices, but I rely on distinct descriptions the majority of times. And as mentioned before, I want to make you feel the freedom of TTRPGs - so you choose the path, and we bend the rules however necessary.
