About the adventure
Far from the epicenter of the Ascension War, the young independent mages of the Bronx have done their best to understand their own Awakenings and still interact with the communities they claim as their own. Through a combination of networking, luck and mystic nudging, they have formed The Community Music and Outreach Center on White Plains Road. When a knock on the Center’s door turns a quiet night upside down, the Mages of the CMOC will be thrust into a test of local loyalty, mystic skill and bravado. Burn the Juice is a game set in Mage: the Ascension using the Mage: 20th Anniversary Edition ruleset with some simplifications to ease play. No prior experience with Mage the Ascension is needed for participation and we will be using pre-generated characters with some options for players to tailor. Additional information (and optional playlist for your enjoyment) will be made available before the start of the game. Safety tools (XCard, Fade to Black, Line and Veils) and group norms will be discussed at the start of the game. The Mages of the CMOC: Astra-24 years old, former student of ethnomusicology that has awakened to be a conduit for the blessings, and curses, of The One. JB Haverston “JBridge” - 19- Graffiti writer that rides the sympathetic connections between people, places and things. As above with the tag on the ceiling, so below with the bass under your feet. TaFyer - 20 A Mystic MC with a penchant for burning bass bins. TaFyer has awakened to the universal divine inside themselves and projects it out to change the world. LaShan Davis - 23 Awakened during a family shattering near death experience that peeled back the veil between this world and the realm of spirit.

About me
I am a long time Storyteller and GM that loves collaborative storytelling and world building. I started with Palladiums Robotech RPG back in the 1980s but soon fell in love with Cyberpunk 2020 and Mage: The Ascension. I am interested in independent and niche games like 10 Candles and Wanderhome. My playstyle can be described as grounded games with a rich, lived in feel to the worlds that I make. I am very much pro-player! I will be your characters biggest cheerleader and always tailor my games so everyone has a chance to shine in their own unique ways. The Rule of Cool and I have been friends since the Myspace days. I use Theater of the Mind approaches and maps to help alleviate the cognitive load of combat and other situations. If there is a particular house rule or a major cannon change in my games I make sure the players know it upfront and that I have some kind of running log for any changes that we can all refer to. I am well versed in safety tools and make regular use of the X Card and Lines and Veils. I strive to have an inclusive table where everyone can be their best, bravest selves.

Creating your character
In order to jump into the action there will be four pre-generated characters to choose from. At the start of the session you will be able to modify the characters before we start the game. Character sheets will be made available via Google Drive before the session. The character descriptions
The PCs are all residents of the Bronx. They may hold marginalized or profiled/targeted identities. How much these identities factor in to the game play will be up to the players. Each character is written gender neutral.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using Discord for voice (and camera if you are comfortable with it) and Owlbear Rodeo for light VTT, no signup is needed for Owlbear Rodeo. Links will be given out before the session. No other preparation is needed though I would recommend taking a look at the MTA wiki. If you like Podcasts then Paradox: A Mage: The Ascension Podcast is a good place to start as it is geared towards new players. Mage: The Podcast is another great source especially for deep dives and author interviews. What Campbell K brings to the table
*Plays "The What I Bring" by Harmony* For this game I will be providing an inclusive, brave space where players can be comfortable bringing their whole selves to the game. I will also be bringing several decades of experience in brining new players in to the wonderful world of Mage the Ascension. I work closer to the "Rule of Cool" end of the spectrum than being a strictly "Rules as Written" Storyteller. I firmly believe that the rules are there to support the telling of the story that we will be making together. Conflict in the physical form of combat is always a possibility but it is possible to run the adventure without ever having to make an initiative roll. There are always multiple ways to solve any of the conflicts in the story. I use a blended style to my games that leans more towards "Theater of the Mind" but I do employ maps to help lessen the cognitive load and also "scene backdrops" to help set the tone of particular locations and events. I currently don't use ambient music as I know it can be a distraction to some people. ( I am working on finding a good bot that can let players mute the volume on their end). Pre generated editable character sheets will be provided for the session, as well as a Sphere Summary document that outlines the magic system.
