About the adventure
Welcome to the Singing Brass Dragon Opera in Waterdeep, where the arias are breathtaking, the costumes are dazzling, and the stage is deadly. For months, a mysterious "Opera Ghost" has terrorized the theater's staff with extortion letters, demanding that Box 5 be left empty and that the new chorus girl, Colleen, be given the lead role. Those who defy the Phantom suffer terrible "accidents". When a massive chandelier crashes into the audience during a performance, the terrified new managers realize they are dealing with a threat that requires professional help. They need a party of brave adventurers to step behind the curtain and unmask the truth. The Phantom of Music is a level 1 to 5 Dungeons & Dragons 5e adventure focused heavily on mystery, social intrigue, and investigation rather than traditional hack-and-slash dungeon crawling. To uncover the identity of the Ghost, you will need to interrogate a colorful cast of suspects—from a jealous dwarven diva to a secretive Red Wizard—search for hidden clues, and navigate the labyrinthine cellars and secret passages beneath the opera house. Themes of tragedy, romance, and deception are woven throughout the narrative, and your party will ultimately be forced to make difficult moral choices as you unveil the true mastermind manipulating events from the shadows. Because this campaign is run asynchronously as a Play-by-Post (PbP) on Discord, it is designed for writers, heavy roleplayers, and busy adults who crave a deep, immersive story but don't have the time for weekly live sessions. We play using a prose-driven, collaborative storytelling style, writing in the third-person limited perspective so that the game reads seamlessly, much like a fantasy novel. Combat takes a backseat to narrative, allowing you the time and space to craft thoughtful, detailed responses and truly embody your character. To keep the momentum of the mystery flowing, players are expected to post at least once per day. We will utilize Discord tools like the Avrae bot for streamlined dice rolling and mechanics, and Tupperbox to bring your character's dialogue to life with custom avatars. If you are a creative player who loves piecing together clues, engaging in deep character development, and writing dramatic tales of love and death, the Singing Brass Dragon Opera is waiting for you. Take your places—the curtain is about to rise!

Meet the Game Master
About me
Born and raised in Cape Town, I am a professional Dungeon Master dedicated to the art of collaborative, high-stakes storytelling. My life has been a long journey from a young adventurer in the Forgotten Realms to a professional creator who believes that D&D is the ultimate form of community therapy. By trade, I am a graphic designer and illustrator. I bring this professional eye to the virtual tabletop, treating every session not just as a game, but as an immersive production. I am a lifelong storyteller who believes that the "Transmutation Rule"—Never say "No"—say "Yes, and here are the consequences"—is the key to unlocking a campaign that stays with you long after the session ends. I am deeply committed to a trauma-informed, inclusive table. I prioritise community over anonymity, fostering a space where 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent adventurers can find a home. When you join my table, you aren't just a player—you are a contributor to a living, breathing world. What My Players Say “I was beyond spoiled having Calvin as a DM. His infectious personality, encyclopedia of NPC voices, and deep care for the game and his players is evident in every session.” “Every arc and cliffhanger is an emotional rollercoaster; Calvin is the definition of collaborative and is very diligent in making sure players feel safe.” “A needlepoint balance of everything—collaborative, creative, and permissive.”

Creating your character
**Character Creation** **About this Campaign:** We will be making use of the newly released 2024 Dungeons & Dragons rules. All published 5E races, classes, and subclasses are available in this campaign that would fit into the world of The Forgotten Realms, specifically the city of Waterdeep. Because this is an asynchronous Play-by-Post campaign, we will handle the character creation process before the actual story begins during a dedicated "Session Zero" phase on our Discord server. You will create your characters online using D&D Beyond. Once your sheet is ready, we will link your D&D Beyond character directly to our dedicated Discord channel using the Avrae bot, which will allow you to seamlessly roll your skills, saving throws, and attacks directly in the chat. **Campaign Introduction: The Phantom of Music** **A Mysterious Threat at the Singing Brass Dragon Opera** You find yourself in the bustling city of Waterdeep, a place of opportunity, dazzling art, and deep intrigue. Recently, the city's attention has been captivated by the performances at the Singing Brass Dragon Opera. But behind the beautiful music and dazzling costumes, the stage is deadly. The opera's new managers, Armin and Fermin, have a proposition for you. They need a reliable team of brave adventurers to step behind the curtain. A mysterious "Opera Ghost" has been terrorizing the staff, demanding extortion money and causing terrible accidents—including dropping a massive chandelier into the audience. Why should you help Armin and Fermin? Perhaps you're drawn to the promise of adventure, the lure of the managers' gold, or simply the opportunity to explore the labyrinthine cellars and secret passages beneath the opera house. Or maybe you're intrigued by the mystery surrounding the theater's newest star, Colleen, who has become the dangerous obsession of the Phantom. Whatever your reason, the investigation will be fraught with danger. The true mastermind manipulating the chaos from the shadows is ready to strike. Are you ready to face the challenges that await? The adventure begins... **Levels** All players start at Level 1. This campaign will take your characters up through Level 5. **Standard Array** (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). Whatever brought you to these lands has made you hardy and stronger than most of Faerûn. You will assign these numbers to your Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma abilities. **Available Backgrounds** Your background represents the place and occupation that were most formative for your character before you became an adventurer. In the 2024 rules, your background also provides you with your starting skill proficiencies, a tool proficiency, and an Origin feat to kickstart your journey. Once chosen, message me to share more details on your background or tweak it slightly to perfectly fit your character's backstory in Waterdeep.
