About the adventure

Absolutely NO AI is used in the creation of this game. --- Scarred, blackened, bloody fingers trace the outlines of a spiral bound parchment pad. Most pages are empty, ripped out, or sullied by bloodstains beyond comprehension. But one page remained. The last. Some sections are ineligible due to the coating of blood. The book, as well as the weary hand that holds it, stand before a rickety and scratched up wooden sign that reads: " Aylelon Eastern Barrens of Ofvenoris " Preceding the sign, a quad of hooves -- clad in mud -- stand patiently before it. Two boots hop from mounted upon the creature, into the slosh below. The hands are that of Iymbryl. He holds the paper in a way where the sun hits it more clearly. "Aurae." He croaks out, through plains-parched, sun-kissed, cracked lips. 36TH OF VUREG 1011 --- Crusade of Opleridia is a fully homebrewed Dungeons & Dragons game meant for players of all experience. The game is set in a completely homebrew setting: that of the Kingdom of Opleridia. The campaign is based on a video game that is currently in pre-production. --- All experience levels are welcome. The game is hosted in an evolving world where characters and NPC's grow alongside each other. This campaign will be heavily based on mystery, intrigue, using critical thinking skills, and awesome combats that are more than just swinging and dodging! --- Unfold the story of a kingdom on its downfall as you and your party of companions investigate, survive, and shape the outcome of a world plagued with war, death, famine, and tremendous consequences. The Orlian’s attack from the east, but they aren’t the only threat, a mysterious cult roams the kingdom, claiming victims left and right. Find a way to put an end to this foreign and domestic war through large-scale political espionage and impactful decisions that shape how the fate of the world unfolds. --- More information on the world, how the story came to be, and more will be discussed in session zero!

About me

Hey there! I'm a young DM who has been doing this with friends for years. Tablestory, a YouTube channel, is what made me fall in love with D&D, and once I realized that I could write very detailed, I knew that being a GM was for me. I LOVE implementing character backstories into my pure homebrewed worlds, maps, creatures, weapons, and more!

Character creation

Creating your character

Starting Level: 1 Stats: Manual/Rolled When: Individual (Or Group) Session Zero Where: D&DBeyond Classes: All classes are allowed, but less than two party characters being spellcasters will be the ideal setup, as spellcasters are rare in this world. Races: We will be using Homebrewed Races that are already input into D&Dbeyond and balanced for you all. Each player will have to read up on a document that defines all races, their abilities, backgrounds, and more in order to determine which races they will be playing. These races are designed for the actual video game in which they will be implemented in in the future (a game that my studio is working on). Background: Your background is a very important part of the story to me. Each player and I will work together individually to create a backstory that is directly implemented into the world and has actual effects on how the story plays out. Secrets, drama, and relationships are how a great story is told!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Create a DNDBeyond account and get familiarized with it. Create a Roll20 Account (Free, payment is not required). Create character art for themselves via HeroForge website (free.) Discord will also be required for Voice Chat. Creativity! I require characters to be involved directly into the world and have a real grounded background which you and I will work directly together on. For spellcasters I encourage players to think of flavorful ways that these spells can look; especially in a world where magic comes not from the weave, but as a gift from the God of Stars.

What Vortex brings to the table

Character Voices: All NPCs come with their own voice and personality. Maps: Each major location (city, nature POI, battle location) has a hand-made made using Inkarnate. NPC Tokens: All party NPCs will receive a custom token of their own. Rules: Rules will be enforced as normal except for certain individual acceptions: 1. Some enemies will have access to attacks or spells that are drawn from the Video Game that is being created from this likeness in order to battle-test and balance them. (And also to add some combat variety!). 2. Potions are bonus actions. 3. Some rules are pushed past or homebrewed in order to save time and avoid headaches. (I.E. using contested strength roll for grapple instead of attack or other examples). 4. Classes, abilities, and spells are ran to the rules.

Homebrew rules

Potions: Potions are a bonus action by default, but are granted automatic maximum healing if used as a full action. Critical Hits: Critical Hits have a maximum first damage dice, and your second bonus damage dice must be rolled. Death Saves: Going down to unconscious will have its consequences, but in different fights it will not have the possibility to kill you quicker. Going down multiple times in the same combat, however, will have an effect on how quickly the light seems to fade.

Safety

How Vortex creates a safe table

Session Zeros are a requirement for me. We will go over what you are comfortable with, how to integrate your character into the backstory of the world, answer any questions that you have, and guide you through character creation. No sexual content will be present at the table whether it be descriptions, images, or language unless the entire party consents. Even then, there will never be images or descriptions on my part, only vague references to the act. Death, famine, and sadness will be incredibly prevalent in a world riddled with war and disease. There will be visceral death descriptions, rude people, and REAL consequences. Murder hobos don't live long in a world full of people fed up with them. After every session I host a quick questionare: What you liked, what you didn't, what you want more of. This often ends in: Uhh, more level ups. Which is a good thing! If the worst thing to come from the session is that you didn't level up, I can live with that haha. If anything that is said during the session creates an aura of uncomfortableness, it will be talked through privately or in a group setting if necessary. My DMs are ALWAYS open to spoken to privately about an issue.
