About the adventure

Want to play a game where you are not the heroes? Where you are desperate sailors, cutthroats, treasure hunters, and probably a few people who made some very bad choices before breakfast. In Buried in the Bahamas, the crew is thrown into the strange, dangerous waters of the Dark Caribbean, where buried treasure, undead horrors, ruined islands, and pirate greed all crash together. This game is for players who want a fast-moving, cinematic pirate adventure with danger, humor, weird horror, and plenty of room for terrible plans. Pirate Borg is rules-light, brutal, and easy to jump into, so you do not need to know the system ahead of time. If you can describe what your scoundrel is trying to do, we can probably make it happen. I like to run games where player choices matter. There will be maps, encounters, NPCs, treasure, and threats, but I am not here to drag you down one perfect path. Want to bargain with the wrong person, rob someone you absolutely should not rob, flee into the jungle, fish for crabs, or start a fight on a sinking ship? Great. Let’s see what happens. I can't promise it will always end well! Expect a mix of pirate action, dark comedy, creepy island exploration, and messy survival. New players are welcome. Bring a willingness to roleplay, make bold choices, and embrace the fact that in Pirate Borg survival is not guaranteed, so I wouldn't get to attached to your new charcters!

About me

My first experience with TTRPGs was a doomed Tomb of Annihilation campaign almost 10 years ago where in the first session I accidentally killed an important NPC. Since then I have played and run many more games of DnD and have explored various other TTRPG systems. One of my favorite new systems is Pirate Borg, a rules-light system centered around pirates in a alternate version of the Caribbean. I've run games for friends in person and online, at cons and at my local games store. Through that I have meet many new people and made new friends. I like creating stories to immersion the players in a open sandbox world, giving the players options and freedom to explore.

Character creation

Creating your character

Pirate Borg is quick and easy to learn but we will spend the first 15–30 minutes going over the basic rules and creating characters together. If you would like to bring a fresh character of your own you are more than welcome. Players are encouraged to come in with a rough idea like “reckless deckhand,” “ex-privateer,” “deserted captain,” “washed-up sailor,” “knife-happy scoundrel,” or “pirate who is deferentially not crazy".

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will use Discord for voice and table communication. An invite link will be sent before the game. No other programs are needed. Familiarity with FoundryVTT is welcome but not required. If you are new to Foundry or Pirate Borg, that is completely fine. I will help everyone get settled before we start and give a quick tutorial of the basics required to have a great time.

What RustySnail brings to the table

I bring a fully prepared FoundryVTT experience, equipped with maps, music, animations, tokens and sound effects and use third party and custom modules to help enhance the experience and allow us to focus on crafting the story. I provide a safe and friendly environment for new and experienced players. I provide all necessary source books in digital formats.

Safety

How RustySnail creates a safe table

Pirate Borg is dark, violent, strange, and often ridiculous, but everyone at the table should still feel comfortable and respected. Before play begins, we will do a short Session 0-style check-in to go over tone, expectations, boundaries, and any content players want avoided or kept off-screen. I use an open-door approach. Players can step away, message me privately, or ask for a pause at any time. If something at the table is not working, we will adjust. The goal is a dangerous fictional world, not to make anyone uncomfortable.
