About the adventure
A hundred years ago, the world was perfect, like a fairytale. Then, in the blink of an eye, the largest kingdom in the world was destroyed, a curse on the princess growing deadly briars across the land. Since then, things have only gotten worse. Witches are becoming more powerful than even the Fairy Council can manage. Vampires are spreading through the north while werewolves continue to pop up through the forests. A new curse seems to appear everyday, taking the remaining royal families with them. The population is low, and many are cramped in the walled Compound or in kingdoms that refuse to accept and acknowledge the end. But maybe it isn't. After a stroke of good luck brings about crucial information about a curse, a party begins to form, one that is determined to save the world, or at least keep it from getting worse. It may not be a happily ever after, but at least there will be an after to have. This campaign takes classic fairytales and turns them into horror stories, an apocalypse brought on by curse after curse. Death and body horror are constants in this world, and they will be described with brutal, visceral detail, so be warned! The tales told here will be depressing, gory, and upsetting. This campaign is best for people who already understand character creation and the 2014 DnD rules. If you feel capable, join the party of broken fairytale characters in an attempt to bring the happiness back to ever after.

About me
Hi, I’m Maria! I started playing D&D about 5 years ago and immediately became obsessed. I am a dice goblin, have hundreds of character ideas, and dozens of creative campaign concepts to try out. I have run games from high fantasy to modern apocalyptic, and have played as almost every class. Whether I have been a player or a DM, I have always had fun, and I want to share that fun with everyone I can!

Creating your character
This document gives the world info to help you with your character creation: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iznSxsHpDMnYRcL3-YpCTv6W1muMZW3cgOg_RmnLrwc/edit?usp=sharing We will have a Session 0 to discuss character creation, which will be free to participate in. We will start at level 5 and use point buy or standard array for stats. All official 2014 books besides Spelljammer will be allowed. We will have the characters made on D&D Beyond - I will be sharing my content, so you will have access to all the books I have, even if you have a free account! Although this world is sad and gory, you are to play the heroes, so please do not join if you just want to kill people. I anticipate you to play a fairytale character or a character somehow connected to a fairytale character. Stories like Wonderland and Oz will NOT be included. The characters you can NOT play are: Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty or the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. You can play other characters from those stories, but not those characters specifically.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will be using Discord for communication, D&D Beyond for character creation, and Roll20 for maps. You will need an account for each - free accounts will work just fine!
What Maria brings to the table
I will have a Discord server for us, as well as content sharing on D&D Beyond, giving you access to all the books I have. The combat in this campaign will be challenging. We will stick with Rules as Written most of the time, but I will occasionally allow for the Rule of Cool for particularly creative ideas. I will use background music and art to enhance the experience.
Homebrew rules
Homebrew classes, items, etc will generally not be allowed. However, given the fairytale world, homebrew races will be allowed pending discussion with the DM. Drinking a potion (or eating a Goodberry, etc) will take a bonus action, but giving it to someone else will take an action. For the spell True Strike, the 2024 version will be used. The spells Psychic Lance, Synaptic Static, and Feeblemind are banned. PvP is only allowed if all players involved want to participate. The use of AI is to be avoided as much as possible. More rules may be discussed at Session 0 should they come up.

How Maria creates a safe table
This is a bloody, gory, horror campaign with graphic depictions! We will discuss triggers, lines, and veils in a Session 0. We will also have stars and wishes after sessions. I am always open to discussing if something is too upsetting, and I will always have an open door policy to allow you to leave whenever you need to.
