About the adventure

Welcome to Windrose*, the center of the world! This is a high fantasy (with some magitech (modern amenities powered by spell slots)) game using the Dungeons & Dragons 5e(2024) ruleset. All are welcome in the city of Windrose! Get ready to explore a sprawling city with a special surprise in store in this Play by Post (asynchronous) D&D game. Will you be the one to discover the city's ancient secret? Come find out! Players will receive invitations to my discord server where we will play the game using Avrae and Owlbear Rodeo. Session 0 is free of charge and will be a virtual meeting. *This game is an homage to Terry Pratchett's Ahnk-Morpork from the Discworld series of books, so if you're a fan of his then this might be the game for you!

About me

A veteran gamer and LARPer for over 25 years, I am always open to playing any system that you might be interested in. As a GM/DM I am fair and happy to entertain house rules and adjustments to magic items and the like. The more involved the players are in the creation of the campaign the better, in my opinion. I love hosting games as much as playing them, and look forward to playing with all of you!

Character creation

Creating your character

You can either make a character ahead of time or wait to build it during the session 0. Here are the creation rules: 6th level character using 2024 rules with stats rolled either in Avrae or elsewhere, using the standard of rolling 4d6 and keeping the highest 3 results from each roll to create your stats. You are allowed 2 uncommon magic items and 1 rare item, as well as starting gold. There is a lot of money in Windrose, and lots of opportunities to acquire what you need, so you can start with 250 gold. We will be uploading the characters to Avrae and creating avatars in Tupperbox for playing purposes, so that will need to be set up as part of the character creation process.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

An active Discord account and your character concept. We wil use Foundry for our VTT.

What Lee G. brings to the table

We will be using Foundry VTT, and I will either create the maps that we need or get them from one of the Patreon creators that I support. Tokens will be in similar fashion, though they will mostly be handmade. I have a Google sheet for character creation on my Discord site that you can use instead of DnDbeyond. A little bit about my GM style: I definitely stick to the Rule of Cool over the rules as written, and am happy to entertain homebrew ideas. My combat is not intense but with a VTT there are definitely some tactical opportunities. Every day I will share an ambient track that you can play while reading the storyboard channel for better immersion.

Homebrew rules

Drinking a potion is a bonus action. Learning a new skill proficiency is possible in game by spending character time being instructed by someone with expertise in that skill and a number of rolls to determine if you absorbed the skill properly. We will also not be using intiative for combat, we will just use the narrative creatively to decide on the order of play.

Safety

How Lee G. creates a safe table

As far as safety goes we will discuss it all during the Session 0 call. Lines and Veils will be established, and other safety rules will be gone over. X, N, and O will be used as emojis on the post that needs to be edited or removed. Since this will be asynchronous, we will occasionally do breaks (about once a week) and do debriefs as needed. There will be an Out of Character (OOC) channel on the Discord server as well where you can let me know if something needs to be changed about the game or just about a recent post.
