About the adventure

New Harmony is a Starfinder campaign set in the newly charted Weydana system, deep in the Vast — that endless, mostly-unexplored region of the galaxy where anything might be waiting just past the next jump. The planet Weydana-4, now optimistically dubbed New Harmony, is resource-rich, officially uninhabited, and absolutely full of things that want to kill you. This is a sandbox colony-building campaign. You're not just adventurers — you're scouts, administrators, and the people responsible for keeping a fledgling settlement alive. That means exploring wilderness, solving problems for (and caused by) your settlers, and slowly uncovering what this planet is actually hiding. Expect equal parts combat, roleplaying, and emergent chaos. This table is best suited for players who enjoy making decisions that matter — your choices shape the settlement and the story. If you like having ownership over the narrative, getting attached to NPCs, and discovering mysteries that don't have obvious answers, you're in the right place. Starfinder experience is helpful but not required.

About me

Hi! I'm Sam! I'm a role play and combat heavy GM who has been a suffering artist, forever GM for nearly 25 years now. I have run over a dozen long running campaigns, from Eberron to Homebrew to Forgotten Realms. I've run games at GenCon for Pathfinder 1st Ed. five years in a row in the 2010s and have run a vast number of Pathfinder and Starfinder Society scenarios and modules. I teach Middle School Literacy, run the Dungeons and Dragons Club for my school, and have run a local club at our town's Library. I am a strong believer in sharing the spotlight (and yes, I will enforce that with in game violence). I reserve the right to counter power gaming with power gming. I love high stakes, cozy stakes, and every type of stakes in between (looking at you, Strahd). Hope we can game together sometime!

Character creation

Creating your character

I'll host a Session 0 one week before the first session. Come prepared with a character concept and two hours of your time. We'll cover stat generation, starting level, and make sure every character fits the setting and the group before anyone commits to anything. You have three options for character sheet: an editable PDF (provided by me, shared via Google Drive), the Demiplane character builder for Starfinder 2e, or a good old fashioned paper sheet. Whatever works for you. You need to be able to share your sheet when asked, whether that's Drive access, a Demiplane link, or a photo of your paper sheet. Please keep it accessible. The only book you need is the Player Core, available on Paizo.com. We're keeping it simple. If you want to use something outside of that, ask me first, aka: homebrew is narrowly allowed on GM approval.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord - Join the server (link provided upon sign-up and approval). This is where scheduling, session notes, and table chat during live sessions will take place. Foundry VTT - No download needed; runs in your browser. Link provided before Session 0. Character creation - Use the character builder on Demiplane (free account). We're playing Starfinder 2nd Edition, so make sure you're in the right system. Player Core - Highly recommended but not required. PDFs are easy to find; the official Paizo site has it.

What Sam brings to the table

I do voices. I try to ensure every NPC gets one, from the harried colony administrator to whatever is lurking outside the settlement walls. Character interaction is where I live as a GM, and if you engage with it, I will match your energy without ceiling. Conversations with key NPCs have run hours at previous tables because the players wanted to stay in them. That's a feature, not a bug. Combat is high-intensity and balanced to push you, not to kill you arbitrarily, but to make victory feel earned. I pay attention to who's having fun and adjust on the fly. Tacticians and roleplayers both have a home here. Even powergamers...to a point ;) Share the spotlight, always. Bring others into the story, don't make them side characters in your personal, edge-lord epic. Skill gauntlets are a staple: chases, countdown sequences, technical crises where what you roll and what you say both matter. Skills aren't just numbers on your sheet. They're how your character shapes the story in the moments that count. All three pillars, roleplay, exploration, combat, exist for one reason: to build the best collective story this group can tell. The spotlight belongs to everyone at the table. Not just the GM, not just the power gamer or the actor. Everyone. Come ready to engage, and I'll make sure you have something worth engaging with.

Homebrew rules

I always follow the "rule of cool" and whatever will make a story better. Character death is a narrative tool, not a punishment or a power trip.

Safety

How Sam creates a safe table

Lines & Veils: Lines are hard stops, aka content that won't appear at this table, period. Veils are things that can exist in the story but happen off-screen. Lines (HARD no): PvP - your characters may disagree, but they don't harm each other, NO exceptions Sexual assault or the threat of it as a plot device Violence toward children Racism, homophobia, sexism, or any real-world bigotry, whether from players or as "character flavor" Being a creep at the table, full stop Veils (exists, but off-screen/fade to black): Sexual content is tacitly allowed if the group is comfortable, but it fades to black. We're not that kind of table, and if you push it, we'll have a conversation. Graphic torture or body horror - it can happen in the fiction, but I'm not going to narrate it in loving detail. Because...ew. Extremely dark personal trauma - I'll handle it with weight, not spectacle. Decisions have weight in my games. The general vibe: This is a table for adults who can handle a mature story. That means real stakes, moral complexity, and moments that hit hard. It does not mean a permission slip to make other players uncomfortable. Read the room. If something feels off, say something. We use X-card (message to GM or a verbal "I'm not comfortable with this"), no explanation needed, no questions asked. When in doubt: don't be a creep, don't be a racist, and don't be the reason someone doesn't want to come back.
