About the adventure

Curse of Therin A beginner-friendly gothic horror campaign inspired by Curse of Strahd. This adventure features its own lore, locations, allies, and enemies, along with new homebrew items. You’ll find yourself in situations where there are no simple “good” or “bad” choices only survival. It begins with a straightforward job: an innkeeper offers your party 200 gold to lay poisoned meat in the woods. But as night falls, wolf howls echo through the trees and the shadows begin to move… The land itself reaches out. The ground shifts beneath your feet as a cold, unnatural fog filled with the screams of the dead envelops you, dragging you into a terrifying new home. The Land of Morvok and its ruler of this domain is Lord Darius Therin. Now trapped in this cursed land, you must find a way to escape. The mists will only release you with the permission of its dark lord, Lord Darius Therin. But how do you convince a monster to let go of his newest playthings?

About me

I'm twenty-three years old and have been playing and being a DM for less than a year. D&D has become my focus, as it gave me a meaning that nothing else has. D&D is more than just roleplaying; it gives you confidence, inspires you, and builds connections and skills to work as a team. I find that completely beautiful, which is why I want to run campaigns to see all types of characters and watch as you become a completely different person. Horror is a major focus point for the majority of campaigns, as I find that when thrown into something horrific, a lot of my players surprise me by seeing the good in the NPC, bringing hope or (mayhem), as it shows that while a campaign might be horror and dark, it doesn't have to be bleak and hopeless. I love getting to know my players, not only because it's important as a DM, but I believe it helps build trust so they feel like they are able to come to me with any issues, as sometimes I'm finding out that when you're a DM, sometimes they don't want to bother you with a problem, and I always say no problem is a silly problem if it's bothering you, and I love to have a chat, even if it's not about the campaign. I think in my heart I'm an entertainer and make sure everyone has a good time.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation Player characters start at level 1. You may either roll for your ability scores or use the Standard Array. Please create your character on whichever website you’re most comfortable with, then send me the link. I don’t mind when you make your character, as long as it’s finished before Session 1. Homebrew classes and subclasses are allowed. Party Background All player characters already know each other to some degree and form an established adventuring party

The current party

Fighter, Monk, Wizard, Ranger, Warlock/Druid (unconfirmed) all level 1

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To join this campaign, you’ll need both of the following: A Discord account- we use a private Discord server for voice calls and game discussion. A Roll20 account- we use Roll20 for battle maps and character tokens

What Amy brings to the table

I’m a self-taught Game Master who uses voice acting to create unique and memorable voices for every NPC. I always play ambient music during sessions to help set the tone and atmosphere of the campaign. I fully embrace the Rule of Cool. If something sounds awesome and serves the story, we’ll make it happen.

Homebrew rules

MY HOUSE RULES Drinking Potions: Drinking a potion is a bonus action. Critical Success in combat (Natural 20): A natural 20 is a critical success and doubles the damage dealt. Critical Failure (Natural 1): A natural 1 in combat is a critical failure. You suffer a fumble and take damage. Glancing Blows: If an attack roll exactly meets your AC, you take half damage instead of full damage. The Last Stand: When reduced to 0 hit points, you may choose to automatically fail all remaining death saving throws in exchange for an automatic critical success on your next action or attack. Rules Version: This campaign uses the 2014 core rules, with select 2024 rules allowed at the DM’s discretion.

Safety

How Amy creates a safe table

In Session 0, I discuss player boundaries and also share my own boundaries as the DM. It’s also a great opportunity to set clear expectations for the campaign before we start playing. If any issues arise later for any reason, I’m happy to hold another Session 0 to revisit boundaries and safety tools together. During sessions, I build in regular breaks (usually 5–10 minutes, or longer if needed). These give everyone a chance to rest mentally, grab something to eat, or take care of personal needs. Players are always welcome to request a break at any time. During more intense sessions or scenes, I remind everyone that my private messages (DMs) are always open. If you ever feel uncomfortable but don’t want to speak up in the moment, you can message me privately. I take all feedback seriously and will prioritize your comfort. At the end of intense sessions, I always do a quick check-in to make sure everyone is okay.
