About the adventure

High School Drama is a GURPS game where players will design a Freshman High Schooler at a primo private school in New England. The idea is based primarily on Rockstar's Bully, a 2006 Action-Adventure video game about a Bully at a prep school, essentially GTA for kids. That spirit follows with massive personalities and the stereotypical factions, like Jocks, Nerds, Theater, Greasers, Socialites, Cheerleaders, and more! The protagonists will be Yojimbo-type characters who move between Contacts, Allies, and Enemies with the various factions, working for hire to gain influence and wealth. The general idea being, time will progress as you go to school, make grades, avoid teachers, break curfew, forge romantic relationships, and pull pranks. The overarching story will involve a larger conspiracy that requires cooperating or manipulating all of the various factions, giving opportunities for social engineering as well as several other skillsets, like Bruisers, Thieves, & Craftsmen. Ultimately the game is about having fun by accentuating and highlighting classic high school conventions, like a power-tripping teacher is a megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur or a super nerd is actually a genius with legions of nerd minions who do his bidding with advanced "super-tech". Taking those conventions and making them absurd for the purposes of drama and humor, but ultimately a relaxing fun game about kids surviving the drama of school. About me

I am a longtime TTRPG GM that loves Pathfinder & GURPS, with a large library of books, art assets, and time to share with my players, it is my favorite thing to do. I am a huge fan of roleplay and often modify mechanics to benefit storytelling & session fluidity. I use Foundry VTT, which is free to my players, and includes vast customization options for every campaign & every participant. Please take a look at this Google Sheet for all of my GURPS games: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OIi-Yp_5L2k4LvJ_L-YxgZ_YF7QIsZr4h0PIoit8fKM/edit?usp=sharing

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be made in GURPS Character Sheet (GCS) a free program with a large database of character-building assets. The PCs are made with 120 Character Points, -50 Disadvantage Limit. Each player will get a chance to consult with the other players in the Discord server, but ultimately will end up making their Character with the GM, before their debut on Session 1.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have a Discord & Forge Account, as Discord is used for all communication and The Forge is used to host the Foundry VTT game. Both accounts are free to make and maintain. Players should also read GURPS 4th Edition Basic Set, Chapters 1 - 4 to learn how to make an average character. Additional reading ideas will be provided during the character-making process as well as during the Session 0.

What John brings to the table

Foundry VTT, which is free to players, a library of GURPS 4e books that will be available to players, and custom art assets & maps, some powered by AI. Ambient music will be used to set the tone and mood of a location or scene. The game will involve a high level of Roleplay with a healthy mix of Intrigue & Combat. Roleplay will include Factions, Romance, & Social Manipulation. Intrigue will be mainly Political with a splash of tactical planning. Combat will mainly consist of Hand-to-Hand Brawls with the occassional Melee Weapon or a Simple Ranged Weapon (like a Slingshot or Potato Gun).
