About the adventure
Phandelver and below is a re-imagining of the classic mines of phandelver adventure. It begins as many adventures begin, with goblins.. And then evolves into a cosmic horror that sends adventures deep beneath and beyond the realm of Faerun! This game has a large focus on tactical combat, but there are plenty of oportunities for roleplay and a few puzzles mixed in. While we are using the module as a base, it is altered to accomodate the player's backstories, so it will not be a 1-to-1 playthrough of the module as written. Depending on what the party decides, it could turn into a completely different adventure entirely! New players are more than welcome to join in.

About me
Hello and thank you for your interest! I am rather new to DMing. For most of my life, I never had the chance to even play Dungeons & Dragons, or TTRPGs in general for that matter. Thanks to certain events in the early 2020s, online TTRPGs were brought to my attention. I have since played in a few games and begun running my own. So far I have ran a Fallout TTRPG campaign and a D&D 5e playthrough of Phandelver and Below (now running a second campaign using this module, it is really fun once you fix the dissonance between the first and second half.) I am a budding artist as well and I try to draw most of the enemies and characters that participate in my campaigns. It is not the best art, but it will only improve with time! I am on my journey to find my mastery of DMing. I hope you decide to join me on this journey, embarking on journeys of your own in the process!

Creating your character
Characters are created on DNDBeyond and imported into Foundry from there. We use Discord for voice and video
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a free DNDBeyond account, a discord account and a forge account for the Foundry VTT.
What Halcyon Star brings to the table
I do attempt to do voices, however, I am not a professional voice actor. So, a lot of the times, NPCs will just have my normal voice. I do like to play music in the background (via a music bot in our discord server) and while I do think the rules are important to add structure to the game, the rule of cool is embraced when appropriate. If you want to do something, you are always welcome to try. Combat will be challenging, but I go through great lengths to ensure encounters are balanced. Sometimes it may require some thinking outside of the box and teamwork will be a must to overcome the threats that await you. Very rarely you may come across an encounter that is beyond the group's capability to survive, but this is made quite clear through tells in game (and above table if necessary) and is only ever done for storytelling purposes (generally something involving a party member's backstory.)
Homebrew rules
You can drink a potion as a bonus action (roll for healing as normal) or spend an action to have the potion heal you for its maximum amount.

How Halcyon Star creates a safe table
There will be a Lines and Veils document, listing all of the group's limits (anonomously) that you tell me in private. At the end of every session I will check in with the group and ask for your Stars and Wishes. I will also have an intermission break during the session incase anyone needs to use the restroom or handle things that pop up in the real world. Remember, you can come to me at any time in private if you have any concerns, ideas or just want to talk shop! Everything will be covered in Session 0, where we will do a few team building exorcises, go over scheduling needs, determine what happens if 1 or more players can't make the session, go over table expectations, discuss the campaign framework and decide on house rules. If we have enough time remaining, we will then play a short quest to feel out your character and the team dynamic. If you are not comfortable or do not want to create your own character, I can provide some pre-generated characters for you to choose from!
