Buckeye Shadowrun

Buckeye Shadowrun

For Shadowrunners in 2066, Columbus, Ohio is very different than for their Seattle, Washington counterparts. But it is also strikingly similar.

About the adventure

Since WWII, Columbus, Ohio has been a unique city in America at nearly all levels a city can be metricked. The tax structure is different. The social divisions are different. The infrastructure, the geography, the economy are all different. Join us every other week as we explore the AA megacorps who control the heart of the UCAS. . We will be using Shadowrun Third Edition rules with the addition of the Second Edition sourcebook “Shadowbeat”. You do not have to own this book to play, but having it as a resource will make game play easier. I’m asking all of the players to be members of a local music band (hence, the Shadowbeat rulebook use). The exact kind of band can be mutually decided upon during Session Zero. . We will play via Discord. I’ll be doing a Theater of the Mind combat. So, maps will be used for surroundings, set ups, travel, things like that. But combat will be handled on my end and we’ll go for more description instead of an interactive virtual battle map. The game vibe itself will be more role play and investigation heavy and combat light. . The default Mr Johnson will also be the band’s manager. Sometimes we will have typical Shadowrun missions, sometimes we will have situations that come up during the band’s gigs that the PCs may want to involve themselves in.

About me

I have been playing ttrpgs since 1979 and have been a GM since 1986 (although I don't think I really got good at it until closer to 1994.) I've played and run over 6 different role playing systems in multiple-year long campaigns including most editions of D&D, White Wolf, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, two versions of Star Wars, and Paranoia. I have written and run events for the RPGA in the 2000s. I also served as plot director and editor-in-chief for the official campaign for the Fellowship of the White Star setting for 19 years.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a Session Zero to go over campaign info, setting details, party cohesion, and character creation. We will all have new characters and will be using the Shadowrun Third Edition rules with the addition of the Second Edition book Shadowbeat. This book is currently available on DriveThru RPG for $8.00. If you don't have Shadowbeat, that is fine. I'll just have to give you some extra details in the Session Zero.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I will run the game through Discord, so you will need to join my server. I'll send you an invite after you sign up for the game but before Session Zero. I recommend brushing up on your knowledge of Third Edition. I know this is an older Edition, but there is a setting reason I'm using it. . As I mentioned, I'll also be using the Shadowbeat sourcebook from Second Edition. But, if you don't have that book and/or aren't familiar with it, it is fine. I plan for us to go over the parts that will get the most use in the Session Zero.

What Thenodrin brings to the table

I will be providing a rich and unique Shadowrun setting. Columbus, Ohio (to my knowledge) is not detailed in any of the official source material. But, its location in the setting and its status in the real world make it a prime base for Shadowrunning in 2066. . My plan is for us to learn about the world and each other over the course of the campaign. I have story beats I want to get to, but I also want player actions and motivations to change my plans in as unexpected a way as I hope to challenge your expectations. . This isn't a just story I'm presenting. This is a collaboration between all of us.

Homebrew rules

I do not plan to use any homebrew rules, but I can be talked into some during Session Zero. I want to make sure we are all on the same page when the fun begins.

Safety

How Thenodrin creates a safe table

We will have a (free) Session Zero where we can discuss each other's Lines and Veils. My personal ones are that any adult sexual themes are going to be Veiled. But, I feel it is most important to keep my players comfortable. The way I see it, I'm the state regulation and you guys are the federal one. Whomever has the most restricted need has that set as the game restriction. . Also, I am going to use X Cards. The reason I'm asking for webcams is so that anyone can make an X with their arms to call a pause to the game due to discomfort. Putting an X in the chat works as well, but I've found the physical action in the chat window gets seen easier. . The reason the sessions are listed at 3-4 hours is so that we can have 3-3.5 hours of game play and another half hour of Aftercare, if desired. This can be via private chat that I promise to be available for immediately, or group discussion if that is where your comfort is. . Finally, if you want a Safety Tool not mentioned here, we can discuss it in the Session Zero. These are just the ones I am definitely using.
