About me
We are The Knowledge Exchange, a 501c (3) NPO founded in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 2020. We're a diverse team of passionate professionals who realize that quality education is oftentimes unattainable for the masses. We exist to deliver holistic, evidence-based educational services that empower individuals & promote lifelong learning, fostering an inclusive global community. We are joining the virtual play space amongst like-minded individuals, with the goal to develop our global community, so that we may pursue our mission of making resources accessible to all that wish to continue lifelong learning. My name is Chris Poon and I'm the Director of Enrichment Programming at TKE. I've been a D&D player since 3.5e 18 years ago, a DM for over 12 years, and a tabletop game fan all my life. As of early 2022 I've been DMing several groups for TKE. We foster a community of players that primarily have disabilities or are neurodivergent, all while educating them in social-emotional learning (SEL) or behavioral skill instruction through the usage of D&D as a communal storytelling device. We teach our kids about real life issues through fantasy roleplay and story-crafting. Our kids & their parents tell us it's therapeutic, it's life-changing, and they don't know where they'd be without us. Please consider our using our services so we can help more burgeoning storytellers and further expand our global community support!

Creating your character
💡Loriset's Lament is a Level 3-20 Weekly Campaign 💡Character Creation is a mix of before we start, and finalization during our FREE Session 0. 💡Characters will be hosted via D&D Beyond to utilize all of TKE's library for player/DM use. We will use D&D Beyond's dice rolling feature during Session 0 to dictate values mentioned below. 💡When the campaign link is given, players can begin developing their characters as they see fit with the caveat that they *MUST* roll anything that requires a roll with the DM. 💡Players roll for everything- Stats, money, HP. If you come to Session 0 with any values in the mentioned vectors, we will reroll them together. 💡Players may choose 2 Uncommon Items + 3 Common Items to add to their inventory, with the caveat that only 1 of the items may have the "Wondrous" tag on the item. These must be validated by the DM during Session 0.
Make characters that are roleplay & combat ready! We employ a healthy mix of both challenging roleplay and encounters to engage our players, so a gimmicky character may sound fun at first, but when you can't do anything substantial in combat/puzzle/roleplay scenarios, remember you built your character this way. For this campaign, I would highly advise at least 2 spell casters, 2 melee characters, and 2 half-casters of varying types. This campaign will see you jetsetting across the land of Faerun, but will also require you to utilize resource management & conservation. You'll need to beat your enemies into submission a bit less than you will need to come up with imaginative and clever ways to sidestep the current predicament. But at the end of the day, an unconscious baddie can't stop you from doing what needs to get done, so if push comes to shove...

Homebrew rules
💎One free Feat during Character Creation 💎Use of Bonus Action for Health Potions 💎Only 2 Short Rests per day 💎Homebrewed items- Legacy items that will grow with you 💎5.5e Character Options are *NOT* available, but 5.5e Feats *are* available for use except for "Weapon Master" as players aren't using 5.5e ruleset. ☠️Here's the crunchy stuff:☠️ Revivals beyond "Revivify" are rituals that dictate their success with an increasing number of Ability Checks that have their DCs calculated by difficulty of revival (+4), number of times the individual has been deceased (+1 per instance), and most importantly, whether the soul willing to return to its vessel (variable amount of 1-5 that's dictated in ritual roleplay). With each difficulty of revival used, the amount of Ability Checks required will increase by 1, from a base value of 3. An average total will determine the overall success of the revival. The Revival DC starts at 8 and increases by the values of +4 per difficulty of revival:: Raise Dead= +4, Resurrection= +8, True Resurrection= +12. For example- Base DC (8) + Raise Dead (4) + Prior Deaths (2) + NPC/PC wants to return to life (0) = Average of DC 14 over 4 Ability Checks. ***This is an opportunity to provide roleplay weight to death and revival in a world where life & death is measured in a few costly components and spell slots.

How Chris Poon creates a safe table
💡At TKE, we employ a variety of safety tools to provide our players with the peace of mind that they're playing in a safe space. 💡Our players frequently find themselves in emotionally charged scenarios that may induce some Bleed into their real lives, so we utilize Breaks, Debriefs, Stars & Wishes, and Aftercare in order to facilitate a more rounded approach to our storytelling & services. 💡We have at least 1 break in our session for both players and DM alike, 15 min in length to allow for sanitary/snack/stretch breaks. 💡After play, we like to debrief with our players for ~5-10 min to ask how they felt & if there's anything they'd like to discuss. 💡When we have notably emotional sessions, we use aftercare with our players to discern if there's anything they wish to discuss with us about their experience and to help players decompress how/what they're feeling. 💡While we have debriefs/aftercare, we also look to Stars & Wishes to fulfill the needs of both players and DMs alike from their tables to continuously provide an engaging and enriching experience for ALL that sit at the table, not just our patrons. 💡We have FREE Session 0s that will allow players and our DMs the ability to lay out Lines and Veils, utilizing the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist, and discussing the generalities of gameplay + TKE guidelines & expectations.
