About the adventure
Storm clouds and gloom roil above the ancient Castle Ravenloft. Imposing spires and cold towers cast impossibly long shadows across the dark lands of Barovia below. Under cover of this this oppressive veil stalks the ageless vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich – the lord of this dreary domain. The people of Barovia are trapped between their Count and boundless supernatural mists at their borders..and they are short on hope. Few ever find their way here through the Mists. None ever leave. But whether by act of fate or a plot of Strahd, a fresh gaggle of souls has just emerged from the Mists. "The master of Castle Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited." This is a horror game with a focus on roleplay and the ever-looming threat of gritty, bloody, deadly combat. Strahd's grim machinations indeed run deep, and adventurers will peel back layers of malignant mystery and uncover secrets long thought lost. All while fighting to survive against all odds. Explore themes and genres ranging from folk and gothic to weird and eldritch horror, always with vampires at the story's heart. Please come ready to embrace the darkness and revel in the catharsis! The adventure is intended for a table of 4–6 player characters who will advance from level 1 to 11. All are welcome, regardless of experience or skill level! Newcomers will find eager guidance into the game of D&D and one of its most iconic campaigns. For those more familiar with the setting, this telling of Curse of Strahd expands upon the lore of Barovia by introducing more elements of the Mists of Ravenloft, the Shadowfell itself, and Domains of Dread – including the Dark Carnival where the adventure will start. There are revamped and DM-crafted NPCs and monsters, fleshed out encounters, and the Vistani are treated with a more respectful degree of sensitivity.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I am a Chicago-based artist with a love of the dark and all things spooky. If I’m not working in my studio or gardens, or chilling with my wife and cats, I am almost certainly creating vibrant imaginary worlds and frightful scenarios to let others run wild with. I got my start with TTRPGs as a kid playing old school HeroQuest with my older brother, and ran games of my own off and on for years. But it was 2016 when I truly fell in love with Dungeons & Dragons. Over several years of playing and thinking of ideas for my own game worlds and stories, I took the helm as DM in 2020 and haven’t looked back! While I’ve run various one-shots and shorter campaigns, I’ve also kept a deeply rewarding campaign going with my close friends for six years now. I’ve learned a lot in that time and found a deep love for the game, collaborative storytelling, and rich world building.

Creating your character
Once they've joined the table, players will receive invite links for Discord and the D&D Beyond campaign hub. Players should roll up a level 1 character in D&D Beyond. Feel free to use either 2014 or 2024 rules for character creation. Likewise, I will have many sourcebooks and my own content available on D&D Beyond but players may use any official 5e or 5.5e materials they have access to. Personal homebrew content should be discussed and approved before use. These characters will be finalized during Session 0, so there is no pressure to have everything set in stone before then – but please do have an idea of who/what you would like to play. I encourage players to consider their characters' fears and explore these while developing their backstories. Please know that I am eager to talk and happy to help walk players both new and seasoned through this process! I keep "DM Office Hours" and have a dedicated forum on Discord for discussing all things "Player Character."
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should have accounts for D&D Beyond and Discord, as well as a functioning microphone and reliable internet. A camera is encouraged, but ultimately optional. Once they've joined the table, players will receive invite links for the Discord server and the D&D Beyond campaign hub. They will also receive a Consent Form to complete prior to Session 0. I encourage players to keep physical dice and copies of their character sheet handy, but this is not a requirement!
What Jordan brings to the table
I come to the table with a robust understanding of D&D gameplay and a deep, dark love of horror in storytelling. Players can expect curated playlists and ambient tracks, and richly sensory descriptions, both out of combat and in the bloody thick of it. I aim to engage each and every player character and incorporate their stories, giving player and party actions the weight of meaningful consequence. As an artist and DM, I have a knack for creative problem solving and can't help but create unique items, environments, characters, and encounters. I keep "DM Office Hours" and am always happy to talk and teach Dungeons & Dragons! Everyone playing at one of my tables also has access to a Discord server that offers utility far beyond voice and video channels to play our game. You can chat with other players, connect with your fellow party members, share notes, post ideas and artwork, take tutorials in gameplay, and make use of a forum for all things "Player Character."

How Jordan creates a safe table
Please keep in mind that this is a horror campaign and a level of discomfort is expected! Lean in and have fun with it! That said, even as characters might experience the crushing dread of Barovia, everyone should feel that the table is a safe space for all players. As such, players will be asked to complete a consent form prior to Session 0. At Session 0 we'll establish lines and veils for the campaign (including my own) and make sure everyone is on the same page. This is also a great time to get to know fellow party members and discuss collective expectations around the game. During our game sessions we will have a planned break, but all players should feel comfortable stepping away as needed and approaching me with any concerns or questions – even in the moment. There will be an optional debrief and "cool down" after each session. Never hesitate to reach out with your thoughts or questions! I am always open to feedback and happy to talk.
