About the adventure

In the city of Waterdeep rests a tavern called the Yawning Portal, named after the gaping pit in its common room. At the bottom of this crumbling shaft is a labyrinthine dungeon shunned by all but the most daring adventurers. Known as Undermountain, this dungeon is the domain of the mad wizard Halaster Blackcloak. Long has the Mad Mage dwelt in these forlorn depths, seeding his lair with monsters, traps, and mysteries. To what end? That question is a constant source of speculation and concern. Undermountain is a series of interconnected dungeon levels, each one deeper than the last. This game will feature player characters that have been brought together by a poster looking for a newly formed, or already established, expedition group by an unknown benefactor to look for a lost artifact that supposedly dwells lost within Undermountain. The game will start in the Yawning Portal with characters of 5th level where eventually characters will reach 20th level. A few things to note: There will be zero tolerance for intolerance or rudeness. Some floors of Undermountain will be extended from the module to provide new fresh experiences and deeper engagement. There will be an overarching plot available for you to engage with or ignore at your leisure. I can't wait to enjoy this great game with you! So saddle up, grab your explorer's gear, and get ready to uncover some mysteries!

About me

Hello, fellow adventurer! I'll give you a little bit about me but I'll mainly talk about my passion and experience and a little of my background that jettisoned me into this beautiful game that I just cannot get enough of! I have been playing TTRPG's, mainly D&D 5e, for about 7 years now with 6 of those being in the DM's role. Before I started playing, I was very keen and into my drama studies and always enjoyed being on stage playing a different character and voice that was not myself or my own. I believe that this experience has helped me with the confidence to become the DM and the voice acting has certainly bled into my performance as a Dungeon Master throughout the years. I have a serious passion for D&D and the joy that it can bring to not just me but to my players also. I never look at a campaign being mine despite making it, but rather ours as we all have a large part in creating the characters, stories, memories within the world that I run.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will start at level 5 and will be finished before campaign start. Stats will be done with the following die rolls: 3d6, reroll 1's once, keep the highest three numbers. Hit dice rolls for level up exclude 1's, because that really sucks for a level up. At level 2, players will be allowed to roll their hit die and if rolled below average, take average for that level instead, but every roll afterwards is set in stone. Players will be allowed starting wealth as well as starting class gear due to level 5 start. A list of random magical items will be rolled up to be shared between the players, with any unwanted items being sold for a base value and divided equally amongst the group before campaign start. All dice rolls and character sheets will be made in the Roll20 game, no exceptions. I am happy to either talk over text through character creation, or to have a voice chat separate from our session 0; Whichever works best for you.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Having a decent microphone is required, aswell as a Roll20 account and a discord account for us to communicate. I do not use a webcam for myself, but will not dissuade players to if they wish, just not for me personally. Having a character concept in mind would help eliminate any time slack on character creation but it is not mandatory as I am more than happy to help with this process. A keen attitude to work as a group within the campaign. No spotlighting, metagaming, hard-core min/maxing, or general disdain for other players or the DM and you should be good to go!

What Trip's Gaming Table brings to the table

I will be providing a constant map that will also provide fog tailored to the characters own sight. of the dungeon for players to freely move their tokens through and to play with during combat and so on. After each session, I uncover the progress of the group on the maps with updated positioning and any areas players wish to have marked for various reasons. With a performing arts background, I utilise voice acting for the NPC's that I play throughout the campaign. It is not mandatory for players but is encouraged. No pressure to do so if out of comfort zone however for any player. I also provide pictures for certain areas of the dungeon and many other things that would be spoiling if I put it here. Mainly though, I bring a very keen attitude as DM and an openess to all of my players where I am more than happy to be contacted about anything campaign related at any point at all.

Safety

How Trip's Gaming Table creates a safe table

A step by step process of how I will run this campaign is as follows: 1) Recruiting 4 players to delve into the depths of Undermountain. 2) Character creation while discussing ideas and templates with the DM. 3) When character creation is finished, a private session 0 with the DM which will cover a range of topics from expectations of player and DM, discussing limits at the table, and mainly talking character backstory and wants from the character and campaign. 4) When all players have character sheets finished, an audit from DM to make sure everything is correct. 5) Campaign start! This may seem extensive as a list, however it really shouldn't take too long with my drive and passion to begin a campaign, especially jf the enthusiasm is matched by the players.
