About the adventure

Welcome to my (newest) Werewolf: the Apocalypse game! I have run many iterations of the same game world, one featuring the mystical New Philadelphia in southern Alabama. This time, we turn the page and focus on a new area in the same world. And that is Centralia, Pennsylvania. An ever-burning city. Many wonder what has caused this since the very beginning and the commonly attributed event was an old coal mine fire. And it has burned, according to all sources, since 1962. But the Garou knew something of the truth: an uncontrollable bane-wyrm was stirring up its own balefire since its release from ancient Croatan rituals. Every so often, the King of the Garou Nations sends 13 families there in an effort to quell the beast. And now, it is your turn.

About me

"You come into a narrow alleyway, having chased your prey throughout downtown..." "Do I see them?" "Create a perception-based Roll Profile" "I only got one success..." "That give you narrative control with the 'No, But' Frame." "So... I don't see them, but I notice their tracks on the muddy pavement!" "Up ahead, you hear a sudden commotion and the cry of 'Stop! Police'!" "I use all my Actions to Sprint up and see what the commotion is. Maybe a cop has seen the guy I am after." I vastly prefer narrative games, putting the story in the hands of my players.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create two Packs - both of similar strength, allowing for a grand total of 50 Experience provided to how well the Back Story Auction goes. This Auction will take place during Session Zero. Before you show up to the event, carefully consider these rules: You will be given a number of questions, each having to do with your family, why you were requested by the King of the Garou Nation, where you are moving from, and a few more. There will, aptly, be a series of thirteen such questions. Win the round, gain five Experience. Lose, and get three Experience. Once we know how much each Pack begins with, all characters will get a bonus 15 Experience above the rest. We will only be using the Core Book and the 13 Tribes - no Changing Breeds, no other kinds of creatures at all. And all character creation will follow the exact rules in the book. The Background of Fate is not allowed. We will be using Discord and Roll20; links provided below.

What to expect

What Eiric E. Padráig brings to the table

I have been running this game since its initial launch; it is my longest running favourite RPG of all time. Back in the early 2000's, I was the main developer for Darker Productions, a LARP group based in and around Montgomery, AL. We had a good number of players. Much fun was had by most. Some legendary characters were made, and if you pay attention to the lore of this game, you might just hear a few of those tales... I know this game intimately. I have quite literally run at least 200 storylines of W:tA through the various editions. I will bring memorable characters, intense feature a new rule called: Surge. It is designed to make combat go faster and raise the states with each round as they click past. There might be music. We will be using RAW, but I advocate for the Rule of Cool.

Homebrew rules

The Surge System is a unique rule to escalate the stakes of any scene, and combat even more so. Whenever a new scene begins, each character has the option of invoking their Surge - a d10 roll made at the beginning of each session (what is called the Surge Threshold). If Surge is invoked, that means you can pull off great things by the grace of Gaia, but that there is a chance that another spirit might intervene. And if they do, the situation goes from straight forward to insane quicker than you can say "when will you rage?". Specifically, if you invoke your Surge in a scene, you get a random number of extra d10s to roll in that scene, and that will vary between one and five. At the Cliath Rank, Surge rolls do not trigger Surge Events on a roll of 10, should that be your Surge Value for that Session. Fostern get the same protection on 9s and 10s. Adren on 8s or higher. Athro on 7s and higher. Elders on 6s or higher. Cubs have no such protections at all. When you roll the Rule of Three (regardless as to what that value might be), you get a number of Surge Events that will occur within the scene equal to the number of dice that you roll that are successes or do not generate successes. For Example: Ulric is fighting with his Klaive against a Black Spiral Dancer and he invokes his Surge. He rolled a Surge Threshold of 5 at the start of the session. He makes his attack roll getting a 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, 2, 5, 3, and 5. He hits his Surge Threshold and his strike lands true. Since he generated 3 Successes, he gets three Surge events: specifically Events 8, 9, and 10. If he failed, he would have Surge Events 2, 3 (x2), and 5(x2). I will not be sharing the actual Surge Events Lists with players, and they change with every scene. Familiar patterns might emerge, and one may come to guess which spirits are messing with your character's fate. TL;DR - the higher in rank, the less often Surge will come back to bite you in the arse.

Safety

How Eiric E. Padráig creates a safe table

We will have a Session Zero, as described above. We will have an Open Door policy, so if at any time you need to drop out we ask that you tell me ahead of time, but you need not have to say way. I do not use Stars ands Wishes per say, but rather "Rose, Bud, Thorn" - a Rose is something you enjoyed, a Bud is something you are looking forward to, and a Thorn is something you did not enjoy.
