About the adventure

Your friend Arjen has disappeared in the depths of the local Woods and hasn’t been seen for 3 days. He was armed only with his hunting knife and you heard him say “I'm going to look at that Old Cabin in the Woods". As Arjen has not returned, you and a group of friends rally together to find your intrepid friend. This easy to play D&D game is designed as an introduction to D&D. You'll need no prior knowledge or do any reading rules, as you'll be guided each step of the way. We'll have a quick chat about what things you'd like to do and I'll advice on good choices from the pre-made characters and with that you’ll be ready to play. Come join us and have a fun time…

About me

Hey there, I'm known as Japes (jay~ps). I caught the bug with D&D as a kid and have never recovered. These days I GM online and several players of my first online games, I'm lucky enough to still game with today. My favourite part of these games, is having a diverse mix of players from around the world, at the table. I've been GMing long enough to know one thing: these games are best when everyone's having fun together. I make sure every table I run a safe, creative space, and all I ask is that we're courteous to each other whether you're playing a 1920s FBI agent hunting Cthulhu Mythos monsters, a piece of Sapient Pearwood in Discworld, or a Fairy Seraph growling at enemies as you fly over the wizard's head in Daggerheart. Playing these characters is exactly why we're here. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Character creation

Creating your character

For this one-shot we'll be using 6 different pre-made characters. Who are 3rd level, which means they are easy to use and have some fun abilities. They’ll have a magical weapon and a healing potion. If needed I can advice on their strengths and how they play in game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

• A reliable PC with internet connection, and a Chromium browser. • A working gaming headset or microphone and headphones. • Free accounts for the systems used: Links provided after joining. • I'll be 'on camera' and it would be great if you do too. It makes for a friendlier game.

What Japes brings to the table

• I’ll guide you through the game mechanics as we play. • I’ll bring some voices to the table as I roleplay the NPCs and love it when players do too. • Colour hand drawn maps and many great features of FoundryVTT. • Background music, the volume is controllable by you. • Storytelling that will bring the narrative suspense to the table. • A sprinkle of dry humour that adds a unique flavour.

Safety

How Japes creates a safe table

• We'll be using the "Deck of Player Safety" which uses private responses for your Lines. • I embrace inclusivity for all players in these games. The ism’s should they arise I'll deal with it quickly. • We’ll have a break for 5 to 10 mins half way through the session. Time to top up drinks and snacks.
